Gate call for more support

Its funny how people are reluctant, unable or not interested to come and support the team, but like the idea of a football club in the area. There are over 1000 people paying money into the Goalden Gate lottery, who obviously want to support the club in some way but don't attend matches. Its not about the prize money as there are other lotteries that have a much larger prize fund.

I believe that it is still mainly results orientated and that if we were top we would be getting larger gates. As someone said earlier, we are still one of the best supported clubs in the Ryman league. However I do think that the curent financial climate is still having a big effect on people. Thanet is not the most prosperous area to be living and working in at the moment.

I know it is not easy but can the club not organise a high profile pre season friendly for once. Wwe always seem to be months behind organising anything like that, mind you its usually because we've sacked the manager around the time that they need organising. The last time we had a decent one, with a high attendance, was when West Ham bought a strong team to Hartsdown.

One thing also sticks in my mind. Who remembers when the club played the Eastenders football team? There was over a thousand people at the game and the vast majority were people who had never been before, i.e. parents and children. I was doing the radio hut then, and although we had the old stadium at that time, I remember someone walking past me at the end and saying, "I never realised they had so much here". And I think that is the answer, we need to attract people in who would not normally come. That is why invitations to schools is a must. Get the parents along and maybe a gift or something for the kids so they want to come back. On that subject, who was the player who was a teacher and bought his kids along to the game when we were played at Dover?

Its bonfire night soon as well. The club put a firework display on for a couple of years. I don't know if it was profitable, but it was well attended if I remember correctly.

As for the other comments on Gate radio, I am with Tony on this one. I don't think charging would help. (Although can I make it clear that I am not against paying ). I try and get to all games that I can but living so far away it is not possible. I work shifts and weekends, and if I am on nights I can't get back in time and if I am on days I obviously can't make them either, so gate Radio is great for those times. And then at the weekends when I am off they have to clash with a Home match for me to go. For someone to suggest (and this is not a dig ) that it might make exiled supporters travel is not true. I for one, and I know others who live away, try and support the club in other ways. Some of us have sponsored shirts, I personally pay into the lottery and the superdraw to try and do my part.

Some really good points made there Steve. Not sure if the bit about forcing exiles to attend was mentioned by anyone as I realise they can't all get here from a distance(I know that can be said for away supporters too),I may have missed that. If it was what I was saying ( if it was I'm not taking any offence) I was targeting "away" supporters" & some home supporters locally that once upon a time before the era of the computer would have attended reguarly, that "might" now & I stress "might" not be bothering to come because of what is otherwise on offer.

Gutted me and gareth have a wedding to attend to at the bury game!!!

Must say this is a novel way to increase support just a few questions.

1) Is it on the pitch during the match?

2) Are we expected to bring a wedding present?

3) Is it a free bar after the ceremony?

1) Is it on the pitch during the match? 3.30pm (behind the north end goal)

2) Are we expected to bring a wedding present? Yes good idea, or donation to club

3) Is it a free bar after the ceremony? Free pop and ice cream and jelly

THIS IS ONE WAY OF HELPING THE CLUB, SUPPORT THE MISA GRAND CHRISTMAS DRAW

BUY LOTS OF TICKETS . . .

ON SALE AT HOME GAMES NOW!

ALSO PRIZE DONATIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

Prize donations ensure that all monies raised go to the club . . . after ticket printing costs are taken out.

I see on the Ramsgate forum someone was piss taking for our meagre 98 in attendance last night. Well I think that's not too bad for this particular cup comparing it with only 119 at Southwood for a league clash against a team high up in the league & unbeaten. I think the laughs on them rather than on us.

But seriously though it looks like the people of Thanet are not turning up at either venue.

What worries me though is that Bromley brought around 30 fans so only around 60 odd margate fans could be bothered!
