Gate call for more support

Is there anyway of charging for your live streaming of matches Steve before they can hear the commentary? Am sure those who listen in wouldn't mind paying a few pounds for the pleasure.

Administratrion coupled with the software set up does make it difficult to charge (although not impossible) and the the amount of money it would raise is very questionable. But, I am going to suggest a donation price list in time for next week's league game. We'll see how that goes but other options include restricting the number of games covered live.

Something I wonder about is whether a lack of public transport to the ground has any impact on attendances. Quite a trek from the station and from the bus stops served by regular buses. I'd guess there's at least some people put off by the lack of access and also there might be people who drive to games that would simply rather use public transport - maybe so they could have more than one drink in the bar or whatever. Extra money for the club if that's the case.

Could Stagecoach be persuaded to divert a couple of Loop buses past the ground on matchdays for a trial period ?

Another idea if leaflets / a mail-out is going to be sent out might be to target local Sunday footall players. The Thanet Sunday Football League site has the e-mail addresses of practically every club secretary and the league itself could probably provide postal addresses. I'm thinking maybe some kind of special offer for Sunday players as a one-off on the basis that they're obviously interested in football and probably don't attend Margate games. 100's of potential attendees I'd have thought.

Yes, perhaps something like that but there are 1 or 2 ideas I have in mind to cater for both home and away fans.

Timely reminder that - thanks Jeff.

Just before thoughts around GATE RADIO dominate this thread, the emphasis here is really on two key issues:

1. More people through the turnstiles.

2. More investment at board level.

Those are the two key things that will be pre-requisites for building future success on the pitch. The other stuff is useful - don't get me wrong - but these are the big ticket items.

Agreed Steve, but every little helps as a certain Supermarket says. I do like Jeff's idea though.

i think it would create another Revenue stream, mainly from away supporters, it might even make the lazy sods who stay at home (that will be me then) come up and actually watch a game or two

Exactly Pagey.Been here before I recall & I wasn't very popular for bringing it up.

This (again) & I stress is no slight on Wellsies gallant & excellent efforts on matchdays but maybe a "juicy" game or two at home could go without "live" commentary for a tester. If it dosent noticeably increase the support then it would be back to square one. Personally I think it WILL improve.

Away support also see live commentary mentioned & they probably stay home in the warm & listen for "free". It would be sad for genuine home supporters that genuinely can't get to the game but something has to be done if the club want more through the gate & i.m.o. people out there, not the genuine ones are using this to their advantage at times.

I listen in next morning even having gone to the game & thoroughly enjoy the commentary even after the event.. Away games "live" commentary only would be more helpful to us but as Wellsies told me a few times this isnt such an easy thing to do.

As mentioned on here today & on here previously IF home commentary does continue then a subsrciption would certainly help things all round.

I was speaking about this very thing today with my brother-in-law who lives here in Margate but supports (in person travellng from Margate to MOST games home & away) to watch his beloved Newport County(incidentally he visited us for the first time when we won 6-1 & may come back tomorrow if he can't get to Newports game(lucky omen perhaps?), & he says they are now thinking to ask for a subscription to listen in.Whether its on to do so here is not within my capabilities to know how it can be done but it surely could be done I would have thought. i.e £10 a year or maybe £2 a game.

Even though Newport get thousands in anyway they are looking into this right now to help them even get more through the gate. As of, I think he said to me, two games ago "Live" commentary stopped both at home & away until they come up with something. At Newport this subject is currently being discussed. Its on a higher scale having more going in at Newport with their support & it wouldn't be so much here but it would all still help surely.

In the meantime Wellsie keep up the good work you do & I took into account what you mentioned to me before about the service & its other advantages. As I say this is nothing personal against either Wellsie or his commentary, its just my thoughts on how we can entice further heads through the gate on a Matchday.

Talk of "free" advertised transport is also another good idea but didnt we try this before. However it might be worth the effort again with maybe supporters themselves offering to collect support from certain areas in their cars.Ok even if its only about 30-50 extra people again, it helps.I for one am willing to make a few trips to collect people that normally dont come & return them after the game if that is a way to go & is advertised.

Charging for Gate Radio will be a bit like punishing people who live too far away to get to the games to watch, and putting a press release on the website about a call for support is a bit preaching to the converted.

How about offering people who have season tickets at other clubs locally discounted entry to when they are away? or discounted entry for season ticket holders who bring a friend? Ladies day? sporting auction during the game? putting programmes from shop on ebay? Listing yourselves on everyclick.com or buy.at to earn money from people using those initiatives?

vouchers on back of admission tickets for other places?

How about letting organised school groups in for a pound each and cornering off a section (bottom of the coffin end) for them all to keep together.

You wont be able to please everyone John, sadly, or be popular with everyone but well done as there are further good ideas there on reading above post but they need to "actually" be acted upon to take effect & not just discussed. (A bit like the coffin end eh? l.o.l.)

I think they need a marketing / sales comittee..people who have worked in marketing or sales, or peopke who have business minds and love margate..and also people who don't mind organising meetings and putting in some of their own time to try and generate revenue or ideas to generate revenue..

If john submitted ideas of how to help the club his points should be analysed and be taken into consideration, now if there is a committee to do this who meet maybe once / twice a month??I don't know...maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree, maybe there is people who do this already??? I just think if you can get people who work in marketing or people who just love the club to form a committee this could help..
