Slough 5-0 East Grinstead Town

I thought the result flattered us, though by the end we were well in command.Without Daly, defence looked suspect, especially in the first half, but in the end it was very comfortable. Spencer had another good game---stress the another, as he gets a lot of unfair criticism.Boot was on the bench---much speculation as to whether this was to avoid being cup tied, should he move on.

I thought we were poor overall, especially first half. It was only after the second goal that EGTFC crumbled and let us in to score more. And God knows how Matt Miller missed his chances. Anyways, at least we're through. Was the gate really over 400?

The official attendance was 386 I think, but with all the comps and officials from East Grinstead, there were over 400 people watching the game.

Spencer did well, more in the second half, where his delivery improved greatly. Still looks suspect on 50/50 and tracking back, but a much improved second forty five from the overly cricised Conference quality.

Very shaky opening forty five where EGT had a number of half chances, but never really tested Fossie throughout the game, with the exception of one good save the Slough keeper pulled off in the first half.

Miller, Harris and Payne all should have at least tested the keeper with their chances, but all credit to Hodge and his 'Office' celebration after the first goal. Having caught him in the Stag & Hounds after the game, he did say his celebration was taken from the comedy show...

As for Boot, turned up at 1:45, so obviously wouldn't have started. Don't know why he was late, but he wasn't the only one. With the match in the bag midway through the second half, was he really needed today?

Anyone who tells you that today's performance was good is mistaken, yes, we did win 5-0, yes we were the better side, but you have to consider that East Grinstead could have got 2 or 3 and then it would have been a different story. It wasn't a good performance, but it was good enough. Matt Miller wasted several good chances and the midfield and forwards seemed to be out of ideas for most of the game. But this WILL boost our confidence for future home games, I'm pleased about that.

Can anyone tell me why Tony Boot was on the bench today? I've heard rumors that he turned up late, but is that true?

OK we were not great, but do we have to be - all that was needed was to beta the oppoisition and we did that comfortably without getting out of first gear. Sometimes maybe we should take the result, not dwell on the performance and look forward to the next match.

Daly's missed big time and we looked nervous at the back and I still think we are short of quality, but i'm sure Eddie realises this. Remember we have a few injuries and the squad is not that big, so one player missing - especially the captain is a big loss.

Boot also did not come out for the half time kick about with the other subs. That has to raise the question would he have been used if needed. Bear in mind it was only 1-0 at half time and I don't think anyone would have fancied a trip to East Grinstead for a 7.00pm kick off.

But at the end of the day doesn't matter because we won. But if it gets harder.....

Hi to all the lads and lasses at Slough Town. Well done another cup run starts to take shape. I'd accep't any win at the moment we've played 5 lost 3 drawn 2. Were in the next round on a bye, Rossendale away a week on Saturday. It could be sometime before we live the dream once again. Keep it going there's a lot of the lads who still look for your results.
