Sawbridgeworth Town vs. Clapton

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, was thinking of attending the Sawbridgeworth vs. Clapton match on Tuesday night and needed a little bit of info. First of all how far is the ground from the staion? Looks like a twenty minute walk on google earth. Secondly what is the clubhouse like? Finally are there are decent places for food near the station? Take away or otherwise.

Many thanks in advance!

about 15 minutes walk from the rail station, its basically one road from station to ground so you shouldnt get lost, the bars fine step 5 standard and you will walk past numerous fast food places on way to ground as you walk through the high street, although good food is available inside the ground. A pleasant enough club to visit, they have a new stand which is identical to the stands at southend manor and hullbridge. Jade Goodeys ex jeff brazier is a former sawbo player.

The clubhouse is one of the better ones in the ESL a few tv screens doted around to watch the early kick offs, loads of space too. Main stand as said above similar to Southend Manor, very good.

Never gone by train, always by car, but Sawbridgeworth not a large place. Doubt it would take more than 15 mins as said above.

If you stand behind the home keeper "Ring" he dont like mobiles going off...lol and he likes a good swear at the fans.cheesy%20(2).gif

Apart from that, you should have a good day, a real 6 pointer at the foot.

Teams at the foot... Mauritius pleased they are not down that end so far.

Surprised Bowers & Basildon are, after all the summer talk.

Biggest surprises has to be title contenders : Burnham, Takeley & Barking, big things would of been expected after a good season last term.

Sawbo although they finished just outside of the top.6 were struggling towards the end, so maybe not that much of a surprise

Sorry Clapton but they always seem to be down there and

finally, my mate:grin: at Hullbridge big talk about title potential on here from various posters but sitting 3rd from bottom without a league win. (wave coachie) (will he bite,, will he bite, will he bite...lol) xxx

Good pubs in Sawbo. The Gate, literally a 5 minute walk from the ground is good if you like your real ale. 5 mins past Crofter's End is The Three Horseshoes. It's a lovely country pub which serves McMullens beer & does good pub grub. The White Lion, right in the centre near The Gate, lively fair bit of crumpet in there most nights. You've also got The Good Intent, The Bull, The King William, & several others all within a 10 minute walk of the ground. At the station you have The Railway which on Tuesday will be pretty quiet, but if you want an old boiler on a Friday or Saturday night that's the place to go !

Having seen Sawbo play for a while, might pop along myself.

Huge game for Sawbo in terms of starting to climb that table but we are starting to get things together now what with injuries and suspensions etc

Ringo will love you for saying that!! All goalkeepers are a bit mental though aint they!?

Would recommend the burgers at the club definitely :)

No offence mate, but our support were struggling to get motivated to make a bit of noise for that game, until he bit to a mobile going off, from then on. It was like winding up a jack in the box, he must of spent most the half turning round to us. Will these keeprs ever learn. It was funny.cheesy%20(2).gif

Apsa was the same, but it wasnt the keeper that bit, but the assistant manager, after the keeper conceded four in the opening 20 he stood behind the goal, giving us abuse. This is never going to work. We just gave him more. lol

It's a good laugh.

If keepers are like Smallsy, gesturing to us for the goal kicks to actually make some noise (did it for both Burnham & Bowers) and then, clapping us at half time, full time, they get a bit of respect, from the supporters, but when a keeper turns round and bites, it is like a red rag to a bull...dance%20(2).gif

Thanks for all the info guys, definatly sounds like it's a ground (and place) worth visiting. Considering the weather forcast for tomorrow, how well does the ptich hold up in the rain?

last season we visited in the middle of that bad weather (feb/march) spell and apart from being very muddy in both goal mouths, overall not too bad. Should be more than ok, i would guess for tomorrow.

2-1 to Sawbo. Clapton had their chances though, but Jamie Ring in goal made 3 or 4 very good stops to ensure 3pts for The Robins.

Home goals from Matt Waldron & Tom Querry. Richie Eames got a late goal for Clapton.
