Ricay 0-0 Margate.

Billericay v Margate:

First half dull, even stevens in midfield, Margate slightly the better towards half time. Excitement in the last couple of minutes when Saunders passed to their striker at the edge of the area, only for the shot to come back off the post. Then both keepers made good saves in the last few seconds of the half. Our shot was by Marsden.

Second half was niggly, mainly because the ref was giving decisions the wrong way, seeing incidents nobody else saw, and all the other stuff we get from refs at our level. Kamara was more interested in his argy bargy with their number 5 Wild than getting on with the game, and generally Ricay were having the best of it.

Then the sending off. Jay was late going in and the player fell over his leg. Yellow at worst, but the ref fell for the player's writhing and moaning. Needless to say, a minute later the critically injured player was sprinting about like an antelope. It pisses me off when all that play-acting filters down to our level, and I should also add that Kamara was at it in the first half.

As it turns out, that was a tonic, because we took hold of the game and could have nicked it towards the end. However, there were a few hairy moments in our box right at the death.

One amusing incident when Dean Grant was spinning out an injury to waste time, and the home keeper (approx 6 foot 9) just picked him up and planted him over the touchline.

MOM for me on our side would be Lacy. Did everything asked of him, no fouls or playacting, great throws which could have led to something, and even one where he made as if to throw long and then went short to Ball, which is what a number of people have suggested. It nearly worked too. In fact all the backs and midfield did well today, and I am sure we would have scored if big Shaun had been up front for us. Three maybe.

Good to see Greg Oates still putting in a good shift at right back for the home side, and we were also treated to some nice flashes by our old friend Bertie Brayley.

All in all a fair result against one of the form teams in the league.

Poor game in truth. Few chances for either side. Nice to see us organised at the back, and all in all, rarely look threatened. Bit toothless going forward, but guess that was to be expected with Welford out and most of the rest of our strikers carrying knocks. Have no doubt that with Welford on the pitch, we would have scored. Would certainly have been a good contest between him and Wild, who looked quite solid for them.

But a good result in my mind. Think we're the first team apart from Lowestoft to come away from New Lodge with anything this season. And, bearing in mind we were pretty much up against 12 men (shocking decision for the red card - never a sending off), a very creditable point. A lot of credit must go to all the lads for digging in and earning a point, where other teams would surely have just rolled over.

Only concern is that we may well be without Jay and Shaun for a few games (is it a 3-game ban for a red card?). And our strikers seem to be dropping likes flies. Just hope they recover in time for Tuesday.

I hope to be proved wrong but if A. Quain, did not have what it takes 12 months ago-what has changed ?

Please prove me wrong.

Thanks for the reports-with marsden going off and jay sent off-how did trhe miefield line up in the second half-surely we had more than Rogers and Pinnock in miefield-or did we really play 5-2-2 in the second half ?

My opinion of AQ from the last 2 games is nothing has changed from last season - he didn't make the grade then and..........

I would like to congratulate the midfield and defence for their performance on saturday.

However without Shaun the attack was ineffective - similar to our nuclear sub HMS Astute this week - stuck on a sandbank and with no nuclear fire power - ie minimal threat.

Doesn't bode well for goals for the coming games - especially with the lack of adequate and fit strikers in the squad.

Apart from MOTM Chris, I thought Rogers, your report very similar to my match report, which is good to see.

Yes Alan, and I also noticed the Gaffer's take on it was very similar, and he also singled out Rogers. So we all agree: it must mean something, but I don't know what!
