ETFC v GWR

Briefly, we missed a hatful of early chances - Adam Wallace producing the worst miss I have seen in nearly 40 years of football (if The Cold End caught that one it should rival the Rocky Baptiste clip) - then gave away two quick goals through poor defending. Second half produced another flurry early on until another giveaway led to the third.

Well we have been in good league/cup form (results wise) of late, but I have felt us coming off the pace in the last 2 games particularly the Worthing and Walton matches when Bomber performed heroics to see us through. So in a way we had a result like this coming, it's just a bit of a surprise it was against GWR, then again it was GWR who turned round a 2-1 deficit at our place last season with 10 men as well.

So dust down time, a week for Steve to stew on and re-group his squad for the next challenge. we are a quatre of the way through the league season 3 pts behind the leaders, that is acceptable, even in Premier League levels, so it'll do for us now. I just feel we need a couple of fresh new faces with new energy and drive within the squad, other than the (eventualy) returning Hammond, Mehmet and Blackburn.

The only success yesterday was me going top of the ETFC supporters Premier League Fantasy football league. Roll on the Angels

Tom....I didn't catch Adam's miss as I was still walking round... I did get loads of the other chances.... It was just one of those days I think (remember East Thurrock and VCD at home around this time last year).............

The team didn't play that bad and if we'd scored first it would of been a different match.. GWR had four real chances and scored from three of them!! Got to say well done to them as they are a good friendly club..

As ENFIELD UNITED states ROLL ON THE ANGELS next week!!!

Thanks for the updates, comments and views, posted about yesterday's match.

Reassuring to hear that it was more a case of missed chances than playing really badly. We have a really good manager and a terrific squad of players, so it is hard to explain or understand (particularly if you are not there to witness it) how this sort of setback happens. Good players don't become bad players overnight and I am sure this is only a temporary blip in an otherwise excellent start to the season. In the league we are in with a great chance of promotion, and our players have done exceptionally well in the major cup competitions.

Nobody expects us to win the FA Trophy, but next Saturday we have the opportunity to show what we are really capable of against Tonbridge Angels, a talented side who are doing really well in the Ryman Premier Division. Cup competitions have a history of upsets and we have every chance of upsetting the odds, and springing a surprise ourselves, if the players perform to their true ability on the day. It certainly won't be an easy ride, it is another one-off winner takes all situation, and we have got to show that we want it as much as they do.

Yesterday is now history. Let's give Steve and the lads our full support and hope that they can bounce back and achieve cup glory next weekend. Good luck guys.

Steve feels that the lads let themselves and the supporters down yesterday. It would have been a different result had we taken 2 or 3 of the good early chances we had in the opening 25 minutes. Having said that it doesnt excuse overall what was a lacklustre performance in a game we should have won , had we applied ourselves properly. A few of the players who have been consistently good week in week out yesterday had off days all at the same time. They know there are some bigger tests ahead over the month of November and it is important that we look forward and not backwards. Lets hope it was just one of those days ( a bad day at the office ). If you look back it was around this time last season that Steve and Del freshened things up with some new faces , it will be down to the lads to show Steve and Jason that they are more than capable of sustaining the good start.

can i just say thank you to your fans again for giving us another great ovation as we left the pitch yesterday . I know im not the only one in our team who can say they enjoy away games against Enfield Town, mainly because you are one of the better supported sides in the league , but also the conduct of the fans . Being a small club we dont get a great deal of support , home or away , so we always like coming to grounds where the fans are a bit more vocal. The difference is , where we went to Lowestoft last year and got roundly abused by their fans , you always know at your place you can receive some abuse/ banter during the game but at the final whistle you always stay behind to clap the opposition , which is so rare to see .

Thanks again and hope you have a good rest of the season

After the first half hour we disapeared, GWR are a decent well organised team & club, they took their chances when they came & battled for 90 mins.

Onebreast can't remember which of your central defenders it was but he played a blinder, throwing himself in front of & blocking everything, then when we did get through the legend that is Louie Green (he's a bit of a Town favourite & has quite a following with the Towners behind the goal you know) put on a special display for us & also had a stormer.

You fully deserved the win & hope you continue the good form.
