Hornchurch 2 Grays Athletic 0

So now we have our first home win under our belts and a convincing one at that.

Grays worked hard but rarely tested our defence whereas we always looked dangerous up front. A 13th minute glancing header by Steve West went across goal and a John Keeling shot from 25 yards in the 27th minute was comfortably held by Grays keeper Mel Capelton. We took the lead in the 31st minute. John Martin floated over a free kick from the corner of the penalty area and Andrew Martin powered in a header from 12 yards.

3 minutes into the second half and we were 2-0 up. John Keeling made one of his penetrating runs on the left and crossed for Vinnie John who didn't quite get enough on his glancing header. The ball went across goal for Andrew Martin who pulled the ball back for Scott Gooding just outside the area who sent the ball back into the box. Gavin McGowan went for a spectacular diving header and failed to make contact but Vinnie John followed up to send the ball into the roof of the net with Capleton left wondering where his defenders were. Grays had their best chance of the game with 10 minutes of normal time left with an 8 yard shot from Ram Marva from a low cross from Freddy Eastwood, but Daniel Gay was behind it. Vinnie John thought he had scored again when he backheeled towards goal in the last few minutes but it was cleared by a defender with the officials insisting it hadn't crossed the line. Deep into injury time Grays defender Ade Olayinka went down in our penalty area but amid hearty appeals the referee waved play on, but it would have been scant reward.

Line-up:- Gay, Gooding (Bradley 90+), J Martin, Adedeji, West, Southon, Keeling, Sterling, John, A Martin, McGowan. Subs not used:- Findlay, Marsden, Cowley, Collier (GK)

A Great performance, good to see the lads working down the wings using the width well.

All the lads played well couldn't pick out a weak link if i wanted to!

Thought John Martin and Jon Keeling where fantastic. Great to see Vinnie and Taffe Start Upfront together again, It shows if they get the service like they did yesterday the goals will go in by the bucket loads.

Also a well done to the Midfield and Defence made the job look easy, which left the team to attack.

So many to choose from as Man of The Match mine goes to John Martin.
