BTFC vs Canvey

Recommended Posts

Given our distinct lack of goals so far this season, I would have though a proven goal scorer, well traveled or not, with the name of Bertie or not, would have been most welcome at this present time.

We have missed some glorious goal chances over the past few months, if only we had someone who could have put them away.

So, If he puts the ball in the net, and/or enables others to put the ball in the net, and he improves our squad.....

Well said TC. some people on here call themselves supporters but they give less support than my grandmothers bra. I fully appreciate that we are all entitled to an opinion but lets give the lad a chance he scores goals and thats what we need and have for over a year (thats my opinion) instead of always whinginging why dont people get behind the team!!!!!

My whinge over roll on Saturday and a win please.

I think it’s a bit harsh to accuse a lack of support when a player returns who walked out on us a few years back for the sake of a couple of extra quid a week. Like most football fans, BTFC fans have long memories.

Unfortunately, Mr Brayley doesn’t have to look far for the chief perpetrator of his reputation. He’s made his bed so he’s got to lay in it and accept the criticism of the fans of clubs that he has previously left for the benefit of his own pocket. Don’t get me wrong, if another employer offered me more money I would imagine that I would take it. Its just when a player arrives that has shafted you before it takes some time to get used to the sight of seeing him in a blue shirt again.

Maybe his time on the road has come to an end and he will settle down with us, score lots of goals, create lots of goals and become a hero. I really hope this is the case as there is no doubting his ability. I just hope he stays long enough so he can win me and the other doubters over.

I think rather than looking at individuals - there are other things we can remark on from yesterday's game.

1. We played much better than recent games

2. We scored 2 goals!

3. The buildup play for the first goal was superb

4. I don't see any reason to winge (for once) at the officials

Now, unfortunately there are 2 sides to the coin:

1. We went to sleep - completely - as soon as we scored and deserved to be behind by the 2nd half (not as bad as Hornchurch, but do we fall off far too much)

2. Still allow the opposition too much time on the ball - we don't seem to have a good approach when we don't have the ball

3. We can't keep the ball (but there was far less hoofing last night)

4. We don't bust a gut to get in the box when we're attacking

5. We don't test the keeper enough (our keeper saved us a few times last night) - and Canvey's winning goal came from getting a shot in and someone reacting to the rebound

6. Our set pieces are, and always seem to be dross - this needs to be sorted. Most teams would see this as an advantage - not for us.

7. Please please please can we watch the line. Offsides are inevitable, but Mr Robinson was going for a record last night. Standing for most of the game in an offside position won't help!

8. Oh, and it would be good if we could keep 11 men on the pitch!

But overall a big improvement, but sadly the result proves how far we still have to go. Onwards and upwards (please).

Thats what we thought !!

But as has been said by others, got to give him a chance.

Bertie was on loan to us from the then BIG SPENDING Hornchurch who had paid Canvey a HUGE fee for him, Hornchurch went bust, and he lost that income.

We tried to keep him on, but Eastleigh were spending big at that time and he moved there.

So it s true to say he walked out, but he didn't shaft us, and he wasn't our player.

Talking of walking out. Dave Collis has moved on to the above mentioned Hornchurch.

A nice enough guy but no great loss to the team. He was another whinger. lol

Suppose what I'm trying to say is that football fans expect loyalty from their players even when someone is waving a few more notes under their nose. We all know it doesnt work like that, but when they do walk away for a few quid more it really sticks in the throat.

It will be interesting to see what we get from Mr Brayley in the next couple of games. Home to Margete and then home to Cray. We've got to be looking for maximum points so we can kick on up the table.

Slightly changing subjects.....I was impressed with Bonnet-Thompson last night. A good goal and a good all round performance. I think we could have uncovered a good un there :)

I think Bertie has probably been on the phone to most clubs since his release from our neighbours up the road.. We had the option in the summer to sign Bertie as he wanted another crack with us by all accounts, our Gaffer thought value for money wise he wasn't the best option, plus we had just signed Danny Heale, who for me has been superb so far this season so the right decesion was made.

I think 'supporters' having a pop at a player that they don't like is a bit childish... Guranteed your opinions would change in 5/10 goals time...

Bertie's ability is undoubted, and I genuinely hope he does well for you... A great bloke, and a very talented footballer... So what if he has been around the block 6 or 7 times, give a lad a chance...

As for moving on for more money: TC, you've got it spot on... And any player put in that situation would have done the same...

I must admit I find the Brayley situation more amusing than infuriating. He's a good player but I suppose we just have to wait and see what happens when someone comes along and offers him a few quid more than we can.

Brayley played a big part in our first goal last night which was one of the best pieces of football I have seen at New Lodge over the last few seasons. The handball was an instinctive thing and for once the ref got it right! Disappointed with Collis. He's finally got fit and then he f***s off somewhere else. Nice one!

Don't think Chargey can play midfield. Think that's one thing we've learned. Robinson is getting fitter and did better last night and Bonnet-Johnson continues to look good.

Before the season started we were told that we would try and keep a settled squad throughout the campaign. This just hasn't happened - although I appreciate this has not entirely been the Club's fault (eg Collis). That said, it is difficult for supporters to get an affinity with a group of players when there are two or three new faces every game. I know the "continual improvement" line will be trotted out but my view is many supporters will be happier if and when our squad finally becomes settled.
