Lets talk about the Football for a change

Recommended Posts

As the season is nearly a quarter of the way in, are you happy with your team so far.

Who has impressed, both player and club?

Any shocks?

Best support.

Best pitch.

Best food.

Do you think the best of the ESL could mix it in the Ryman 1 or above ?

I will get the ball rolling:

Happy with our start, apart from the FA cup.

Couple of sides impressed, BGU, Hullbridge and Barkingside as for players Perry Burns at B/side.

Surprised at Takeley's start.

Takeley has had best support so far.

Burnham has had the best pitch so far.

Barkingside for food.

I have seen a number of games at Ry 1 and above and I honestly feel that there is not that much between the leagues, in fact from what I have seen there is more football played in the ESL.

Impressed.

Not going to give a specific club but players wise - Hawse the striker at Mauritius, Liddiard the striker at Barking and Thomas the centre back at Eton Manor are the three that I've not ticed before who have really impressed me.

Shocks.

I'm not as shocked by Takeley's start as most seem to be. I just got the feeling last season that they looked long in the tooth and that they hadn't refreshed the side. Expected more from Bowers and from Basildon - who have looked quite limp when I've seen them, and was stunned by Stansted's FA Cup defeat. They were so bad on the day it was untrue.

Support.

Enfield 1893

Pitch.

Not been to Burnham yet - looks like they've done some work at Barkingside on the surface.... not sure how it played but looked better.

Food.

Definitely Barkingside.

ESL v Ryman.

I think the "big 4" could all finish half way. One or to others might stay up. I think the gap is bigger than some might think. There are some poor teams at the foot of Ryman 1 (Redbridge, Ilford, Leyton, Tilbury, Waltham Forest - sadly!!), who would struggle to finish in the top half of the ESL, but I reckon most mid table Ryman 1 sides would finish in the top 3 or 4 in the ESL. Look at Romford, they're now a better side than won the ESL by a mile two years ago and yet they're only just above half way up the Ryman 1 North.
