A report on this thriller from another's Forum:

 

Harpenden Town 2 Broxbourne Borough 3 (aet) (Spartan South Midlands League Challenge Trophy) Att: 20

 

A strange sort of evening. Endless journey, prolonged by an accident in the 50 mph limit bit on the M1. The first 90 minutes was a rather passionless affair, with the superior visitors taking the lead but failing to make the game safe. Harpenden made a game of it in the second half and were possibly a little unlucky not to win in normal time. Then the referee appeared to lose it completely, for after the visitors had gone 2-1 up he awarded them a truly bizarre penalty, which ended the game as a contest. Even the Broxbourne chairman admitted it wasn't a penalty. By the end of the game, the ref had sent three of the home side off, the third of whom appeared to do no more than get fouled. I don't generally criticise officials, but this chap did seem to take a pretty strong dislike to Harpenden.

 

I liked the ground. It's not a classic, but pleasant enough - set in a park but nicely enclosed with cover on one side, including a long bench for those who chose to sit. However, extra time was not welcome on a pretty cold night. Admission was £3.50 including a basic programme, and a mug of tea was welcome for 50p.

 

A long but pretty enjoyable night out.

I too watched it and think it was the worst official display I have seen in months. He just lost it! It was like he wanted a team to win! A draw was fair with both cancelling out each other. But what was funny was the gk firing loads of abuse at the striker for not tracking back! Too which he responded if you phickin held a ball!!!! There wAs heated discussions at full time!
