Attendances

Twist&Shout

just an observation really....why do the stewards open the double gates at half time? I saw about 5 or 6 people just 'walk in' for free, they seem to know its half time and just come in. Now I know they may not pay the £10 and £60 or so not gona swell the budget but it mounts up over a season. Surely the gates should be open 15 mins or so b4 full time.

I agree with jab_18 - if we cannot charge reduced admission at half time the gates shouldn't be opened until just before the game ends -

after all how many other entertainments open their doors for free admission at the interval ?

my point exactly BK as I said if people want to watch MFC let them pay the full amount. Ok if FA rules state you can't charge after half time so be it but why should they watch 45mins for free when everyone else pays the full amount, plus I can't see a issue opening the gate 15 mins before the end. If the 'half time brigade' are that interested they can watch and pay the full amout.......

I must admit I've seen a number of people over the past few games come in for free..in mid week games (thamesmead for example)..at least 8 people walked in from the 5 a side pitches just after half time..it is crazy..like u said jab_18, it makes a difference over the season

Going back to the original point of the thread.....

Billericay v Canvey in the League Cup tonight attracted 149. Billericays average attendance is 401.

Ramsgate v Arlsey in the FA Trophy brought in 105 (according to Kent Sport). Ramsgate's average attendance is 174.

The early rounds of the cup competition are always low attendences. As stated before, things like season ticket holders not attending etc. Generally clubs like us will play a lower league team with less travelling supporters. Now, if you want to guage the interest wait to see the attendance at the Hornchurch match. I reckon that they will bring about 100 supporters with them, and we may well see an above average attendance for this one.

But these crowds are massively below average. Go back 20/30 years and even in the earliest rounds the gates would be roughly matching the league average at the time.

From speaking on the Hornchurch website they have around 20 on a coach atm..but they did say there wouldn't be as many of their fans as their would be for an fa cup game..they shared the same ideas and opinions that (frustratingly) the fa trophy doesn't seem as important to their fans..

Our average in our first Conference season was actually 1,233 despite dodgy memories to the contrary! Highest gate was for the visit of Dover - 3,676. Second highest was for Doncaster look at them now Rovers with 2,087. We had 12 games in all with average attendance of over 1,000 and therefore 9 below that mark; the lowest being 637 vs Scarborough.

Clearly that still points to the potential for support to be higher although of course many of the clubs we faced then brought more fans then Ryman Premier Clubs.

The issue of attendances this season hasn't gone unoticed at the club; is being discussed and will be commented on officially in due course.

The only thing that will improve attendances is good performances on the pitch.

The way we have played so far this season fans will come back.

There will always be an issue with people not being able to afford 3 games in one week.

But having said that the last 3 games at home have certainly been value for money.

I enjoy watching non league football more than overpaid professionals

Keep up the good work lads!!

As regards our crowds, I don't see there will be much improvement until the ground development takes off. Between October and March you are permanently frozen!

Will that attract bigger crowds?

There are some fantastic grounds in the Championship that remain half empty and they have massive fan bases ie: Coventry, Derby and Middlesborough to name a few.

That will mean an increase in prices too although i am sure although Alan will disagree!!

My bad wellsie! It was that long ago I struggle to remember! Or maybe cos I was a lot younger it seemed like there were 2000 + at each game!

Middlesbrough and Cov have never really had big support. Derby still get 25,000-plus, which is good.

Our problem is a lack of shelter, especially when that wind whips in!

Thats my point a decent ground does not always attract more fans.

I do agree its very windy at heartsdown.

A nice wrap around stadium like Wembley will do

A wrap around would be good! Then we wouldn't have to all huddle under the shelter like sat when it rained!

Thats the trouble Stacey, you Bridget & Crusty are not made of the hardy stuff. Me and the hooligan pensioners never left the Ezicel stand for shelter. We stayed where we were in that little shower.
