Attendances

Twist&Shout

Recommended Posts

Following on from the attendance today (227-if I remember correct), and the 108 at the Thamesmead game, I just wanted to vent my frustration..

Yes I know the last 2 home games have been cup games and the fans don't seem to care as much about them (another frustrating subject) but the attendances in general are so disappointing and just a disgrace..

Even in the league games we seem to be getting between 200 - 400 (except the odd game, for example bank holidays, etc).

What happened to the days in the conference where we had between 1500-2000 and even up to 4000...where are all those fans? They just come out when things go well..

You wait until we get someone bigger in the FA Trophy or get towards the later stages, all of them will come out again..even if we start climbing higher up the league into the play offs they will all come out again..

This will be good because it will generate more money of course; it just really grates on me..support a team through and through, not just when the going is good..

Well done today though lads..great show for the loyal fans and the 227 (dubious :) ) fans that were there..

Rubbish attendance not a shock though after comments made on my post last week.

Well done to the fans who believe in the team though.

Yea I suppose not a shock..but wouldn't suprise me if the next home league game v Bury will be a similar attendance..around 300 maybe if we are lucky

Hi GA

Can I just repeat my suggestion to your previuos post that the Club need to encourage schoolchildren to become fans, in order to boost attendances in the future.

As MFC are on the up, why not invest in giving a local school 20 free tickets to a home game, and then 20 tickets to another school for the following game. A VIP day

for that school ... penalty competition at half time etc. Also it would improve the club's profile in the community and extra publicity if it can get photos in the local rag. (if we get a home draw in the FA Trophy, what an opportunity!)

Not exactly brain surgery to realise that the club needs these youngsters to come and support the club. Probably all been done before, but how do suggestions (if deemed

reasonably sensible) even discussed by the management/board?

Apologies, GA for including you the the old codgers club, but all this talk of Bryan Clifton, Eddie Clayton etc makes be think there are still a lot of us about .......... I'll go and get my zimmer frame!

I don't think the trophy has passed its sell by date, I think its a great way for a non league club to get to wembley (that's never going to happen in the fa cup)..

Sounds like a great idea zorba...email cliff egan and suggest your ideas..he does listen to the fans..

I emailed him about reducing the price for the thamesmead game and they did (admitedlley they were probably going to do it anyway) but he took time to reply to me and explain some things

Just as matter of interest - yesterday's attendance was our lowest for a Saturday FA Trophy tie at Hartsdown Park since September 1988 when 220 saw Thanet beat Hitchin. The last time there was a smaller crowd for a Margate home tie on a Saturday was October 1980 when only 120 saw a win over Met Police - that's our lowest ever Saturday FA Trophy attendance. Another useless statistic - Shaun's hat-trick yesterday made him only the 5th player to have got three in our 103 FA Trophy ties and the last player to bag a hat-trick in an FAT game was Paul Sykes in December 1997.

Just looking at some of the other teams in our league...

Carshalton had 216 (league average 332)

Wealdstone had 201 (league average 438)

Hornchurch had 214 (league average 283)

Cray had 98 (league average 216)

Horsham had 188 (league average 338)

Folkestone had 236 (league average 323)

Tonbridge had 384 v Concord which wasn't bad, but still below their league average of 402.

Best crowd was Sutton who had 448 for the local derby v Tooting.

I think that one key point is that we are in a recession and have just had 4 home games in a fortnight.

There are a lot of people around who simply cannot justify £10 with mortgage costs etc going up.

The only thing the club could really do is move to an area that is more affluent and less of an unemployment blackspot.

just an observation really....why do the stewards open the double gates at half time? I saw about 5 or 6 people just 'walk in' for free, they seem to know its half time and just come in. Now I know they may not pay the £10 and £60 or so not gona swell the budget but it mounts up over a season. Surely the gates should be open 15 mins or so b4 full time.

I agree with jab_18 - if we cannot charge reduced admission at half time the gates shouldn't be opened until just before the game ends -

after all how many other entertainments open their doors for free admission at the interval ?
