ETFC v's Walton Casuals

Enfield United

Recommended Posts

If Bedfont are anything to go by Walton Casuals will be arriving to kick our boys up in the air and out muscle us in the game by crossing that line of physical acceptance. The Semi last season was outrageous in regards of Bedfont continuosly intimidating the referee and attempting to intimidate our lads too.

So at least we know what to expect. And if that ex-Chelsea player Mark Nichols is playing then a spoilt brat, with a stinking bad attitude will be on display for all to see. My boys will be their but i'm borderline if I can make the game, so if they start their silly games make sure we give them plenty of verbals from the terracing.

Good Luck a win raises another £2.5k

This was a cracking cup-tie and a thoroughly deserved win for Steve and his players. Everyone showed total commitment and it was an excellent all round team effort, so well done and thanks to all you guys, you can be really proud of your performance and achievement today. Thought Adam Wallace ran his socks off up front, was a constant threat to Casuals defence, and was very unlucky not to get his name on the score sheet. Well done Adam you definitely deserved to be named 'Man of the Match'.

Don't know what others think, but for me this was one of the worst refereeing displays I have seen for a long, long time. Where oh where do they find them?

Well done to all Towners on their vocal support and encouragement for our players today. Sure it was greatly appreciated and helped produce the result we all wanted.

Fingers crossed for a good draw on Monday !!

Ditto Littlehampton. The ref was so poor he was entertaining.

Great to see Liam on the scoresheet it'll do his confidence no harm. Stuart is still approx 6-7 weeks from playing again and both Hammatt and now Hope have provided goals in recent cup matches. But it's the league that's priority and I still think we need a goalscoring fox in the box striker to partner AW til SB is back. We have some juicy league matches coming up and am enjoying seeing us on top of the pile.

Another Trophy tie gives our injured fraternity a chance to continue their recovery without missing league games.

Enfield Town (1) 2 Hope 41, 54 (p)

Walton Casuals (0) 1 Webb 60

Attendance 220

Enfield Town progressed through to the next round thanks to a brace of goals either side of half time of an increasingly fractious game.

With neither side able to dominate, both had good spells. An early header from Town’s Adam Wallace could have changed the nature of the game but it was not to be. Mark Nicholls had a shot charged down by Mark Kirby, then Town had chances for Wallace and Byfield, but came under increasing pressure as the half wore on. A good chance fell to Max Howell but he headed tamely to Darren Bonfield in the Town goal. Liam Hind’s header was then gathered by Bonfield. A great chance for Enfield saw Hope, Wallace and Morton all contrive to miss as Casuals defence went missing , then Richard Morton fired across the Walton goal. With half time looming, Enfield were back in the game. Jey Siva picked out Paul Campbell, but he could not turn the ball goalwards. Wallace had a shot cleared off the line by Alex Brown. Wallace then made the breakthrough, cutting the ball back for Liam Hope to fire across Phillpott for the lead. Casuals could have replied with a good chance from Brown, and Nicholls denied by Bonfield.

Town's strong start to the second half paid off with Wallace blasting wide and Byfield dragging a shot across the goal. Then Hope created space in the box to shoot, Alex Brown handled and Hope finished the job from the penalty spot. A speculative lob from Alfie Arthur failed to bother Bonfield but Brown was making amends. First shepherding the ball back to Phillpott to frustrate Wallace, then blocking a shot from Morton. When he rose to nod down a Casuals corner Kristian Webb was on hand to fire home. Bonfield was being called on more and more getting down well to deny Nicholls. His opposite number did well to meet a Jordan Lockie free kick. But in the dying minutes, Bonfield reacted well to get down to smother a shot from Michael Baring. Baring was then denied when his header was cleared off the line by Craig McKay. Casuals were further frustrated by a superb double save from Bonfield before Joe Kelly was dismissed for a professional foul on Wallace. In the dying seconds Wallace was only denied a goal by a last ditch tackle from Luke Evans after a terrific ball from Dennis Maharjan.

One interesting one here . Unfortunately I had put the camera away by the time the charmless nerk (to quote the great Norman Stanley Fletcher) decided to give the crowd the finger from the safety of the tunnel.

Was really amused with the name of the mini-bus company they used, Happy Days Tours!

Nice one Arkwright ! As they say, sometimes it's better to travel and never to arrive !!

Perhaps, equally amusing is the match report on the Walton Casuals official website. Not only did they think that they had " the lion's share of the ball and created the most chances over the 90 minutes" they also thought our keeper was Rob Blackburne not Darren Bonfield. Sure Rob won't mind taking credit for Darren's excellent goalkeeping display, but think that speaks volumes about the credibility of the report.

Good video ColdEnd especially the double save towards the end.

Cannot understand the booking at the end, one of the best tackles of the game, ref judged it by the reaction of Mark Nicholls who you'd of thought would of been able to have taken that with some of the 'tackles' he gets away with. Just shows the mentality of Walton Casuals though they enjoy roughing other teams up but cant take a good tackle like that. Add to that a couple of players and the podgy Shipperley (was he seriously an ex pro? talk about letting yourself go once you've retired) in the tunnel after the game, there actions & choice of words were disgraceful
