Les Fell

Just had an e-mail to say that Les Fell died on Saturday aged 89. He first played for Margate way back in the 1930's as a teenager. He then had a lengthy spell with Charlton and played in the 1946 FA Cup Final for them. Les ended his career with another spell at Margate in the 1950's. Knew Les quite well and he was always fascinating to talk to.

More info on a Charlton site here and there's a link to an interview with Les near the bottom of that page.

His profile on my site can be found here and there's also a 'memories' page here.

Can't be many older ex-Margate players still around although as far as I know Les' fellow 1930's player Ted Bensley still lives in Margate.

I was thinking of an introduction to the crowd, including thier career info "etc". Would be of interest to our older supporters or those of us who read the history page from start to finish. Proper advertising might bring in a few more fans.Good PR.

Would love to meet Brian Hughes and Phil Amato.

Spoke with Eddie Clayton about a year ago.

I think a proper 'veterans/old players day with intro's etc. as advocated above is an excellent idea.

Maybe a free kick shoot out between bryan clifton and wayne wilson-albeit Wayne with a 15 yard handicap.

Clifton had a real hard shot if i recall correctly-normally fizzed them quite low (or as i was so much younger-did it just seem to be going fast )

You're right about Brians shot, but these days he would rather wear slippers, i expect.
