Canvey Island 2 - 2 Dartford

Well I thought that was a thriller!!

At times we rode our luck, at other times we were the unlucky ones, but that's the spirit of the FA Cup.

Dartford definately did their homework and played on our weaknesses, unfortunately for them they didn't count for James Russell's outstanding performance between the sticks and Wardy and Mooro's resilient defending.

Ashley and Alex linked up well as always down the left, overlapping and getting forward at every oppertunity whilst Matt Game and Dobbo were rocks in midfield and get stuck in at every opportunity. Kingy put in a solid performance and showed great composure to convert the spot-kick so late in the game.

Healesy scored a great goal from a narrow angle, but seemed to be lost in the second-half. He looked like he took a knock in the first-half and needed to be subbed a bit sooner. Curran didn't stop running and should've scored at least twice, that miss in the second-half could've proved costly but an A+ for effort.

Dartford were as you'd expect, quick out of the blocks and pacy down the wings. Their problem was they couldn't finish when free inside the penalty area and our Midfield were quick to close down their threats through the middle.

Can't argue with either of the penalties, if you're gonna take the man with the ball you're going to get blown up for a foul. Fortunately for us their 'Keeper rushed out for a simple ball in a rush of blood and flattened Hallett.

Their 7, Danny Harris was lucky not be at cautioned in the second half for his use of elbows and I lost count the amount of forearms and pushes, Jay took to the back of the neck.

With a pessemistic view I don't think we'll be as lucky on Tuesday as we were today with keeping Dartford out, but it's games like these that show the Management where it needs to be improved on the pitch and thankfully for us with one or two new personnel in key areas we could more than hold our own in the Conference South.

As a side note, I know Everett has been taking a lot of stick on the terraces as of late, some justified, some not, but again, it's games like these that you need your head in the right place and if I were Batchy I'd be wary of Dartford playing on that again Tuesday night.

Now that was a proper cup tie and a throughly enjoyable day and night at the Brockwell.

We worked hard, played some great football in spells and rode our luck.

Excellent vocal support from the home crowd but i was some what surprised how quite the 250 - 300 Dartford fans were. Overall a decent gate of 715.

We are very much the under dogs for the replay but fingers crossed we sneak through!
