The 2 big questions I have to ask after today's game are,

1) How in H**ls name did we only manage to score 2 goals?

2) Was it really necessary to have a keeper on the team sheet.?

With around 30 shots at an average keeper and, a handful of headers, we should have been so far out of sight by half time you wouldn't have believed it.

Beyond belief the half ended 0-0.

During the break manager Phil Fennel and assistant Steve Gibson had a chat with the lads, no raised voices and constructive comments passed both ways.

Second half started with substitutions, Ursuline brought on Billy Drinkwater( normally a keeper but has a damaged hand). Billy set the mood for the half when with a keepers bravery, launching himself horizontally to head a ball not only got the ball but a boot that came with it. Lesser characters would have been pole axed, as a keeper that sort of thing goes with the territory. Billy's example seemed to stoke his team mates fires, For the next 15 to 20 minutes, I don't think the Queen Elizabeth boys ventured more than 10 yards into the Ursuline half.

We started to play one and two touch ball, crosses from wing to wing started getting to there target. Time on time we split them open.

It took a special strike from Alexander to break the deadlock, a 30 yarder, sweet as a nut into the net. 1-0

Multiple substitutions occured as the game played on. At this level you are allowed rolling subs.

The effervescent Afuape struck a sweet ball off the laces of his right boot, passed the keeper, into the net, didn't we hear about it! 2-0.

As to the question," why did we need to have a keeper on the team sheet"? The keeper came racing out of his area 3 times in the first half to clear balls he needn't have touched, why, boredom. second half he did no get a touch until the 78th minute and another on the 87th minute. Really, that was the total of his contribution to this game.

Play like you did second half and I can see you winning your league.

Today as with all games at the academy was about developing players, making mistakes , learning from them. Also learning to take responsibility. That's the beauty of the rolling subs, anyone not doing things properly, sub him, talk to him and give him the chance to put what he as done into practice when he goes back on.

As always i enjoyed the afternoon.

The Ursuline First eleven were at home this afternoon, again to the Queen Elizabeth Grammar. This time it was the White Cup, a trophy they had the honour of winning at Hartsdown park two seasons ago.

Our own Curtis Robinson coached the team today, they came out on top with I believe a 7-2 scoreline. Well done Lads, Well done Curtis.

Next round home to Welling on 6th of november.
