I for one feel that with current form Barking could cause the upset of the century. The FIRST EVER essex senior league side to beat Southend United of League 2.

Bowers beat them last year, yes i look like a smart ar se knowing that but ive had to mention a Bowers victory so ive gained nothing from this post.

LOCAL bragging rights will be at stake in the Essex Senior Cup supported by BBC Essex again this season after the Third Round Draw paired several neighbouring Ryman League clubs against each other, with Heybridge Swifts entertaining Maldon & Tiptree and Tilbury squaring-up to Aveley at Chadfields.

The County’s showpiece knockout competition welcomed seeded clubs into the equation from the Football League, the Blue Square Bet South and the Ryman League at the radio station’s headquarters in New London Road, Chelmsford, and the pairings certainly generated a number of talking points as the draw for the last 32 unfolded.

Essex Senior League club Barking netted themselves a trip to face Southend United at Roots Hall as a reward for defeating Takeley 4-0 in the last stage. The other npower Football League sides, Dagenham & Redbridge and Colchester United, will also meet at the Daggers’ home in a re-match of the 2009/10 semi-final where the U’s prevailed.

Julian Dicks makes a notable return to former club Wivenhoe Town with his current side Grays Athletic and last year’s quarter-finalists Hullbridge Sports, the only club remaining from Round One this time, host Redbridge. There will be another keenly contested encounter when runners-up AFC Hornchurch make the short trip to Eton Manor.

The draw was broadcast on BBC Essex on Wednesday evening, with Barkingside Manager Tony Fenn pulling out the home teams and Essex County FA Director of Competitions, Dave Threadgold, selecting the away clubs. The deadline for the completion of the matches is on or before Saturday 6th November.

Basildon is one of those places that you never "look forward" to visiting, I can see that point, it's a bit ramshackled in places (so is Barking though Barking Mad!) the weather always seems to be grey... the pitch although better than some never looks the best and over the 5 or 6 years I've been watching the ESL it hasn't mattered who the manager has been Basildon have always been an aggressive, physical side who always compete and make it difficult for people.

However, I think calling the people unfriendly is a little harsh. Last season I saw a number of games there and I find the people at the club quite friendly in the main...... I haven't been yet this season, but Basildon vs Eton Manor is on my shortlist of possible games to visit this coming Saturday as I think Waltham Forest v Romford might be too painful an experience...... On the positive side, the way it's going I could be combining watching Waltham Forest with watching the ESL next season, because we are a wretched team who will get relegated unless something changes soon.
