Marlow v Slough Town

Our last 6 goals have all been scored by strikers! And a first clean sheet of the season. Let's hope this is a springboard to better things.

Comfortable win in the end tonight against a Marlow side reduced to 10 men in the second half and then 9 due to injury late on. Still, we deserved the win and all three goals were very well taken - particularly Sippetts' looping header which he made look easy.

yes that was just 1 game but that was an absolutely brilliant performance by every single of one of the Slough players. the celebratory cheers as the players made the dressing room showed how much they wanted it and boy did they do their jobs well

Sonner was awesome. tracking 30-40 yards to tackle regularly

the midfield 3 of Coyne, Swift and Logie were disciplined and looked to pressure and restrict high up the pitch making it soooooooo much easier for the defence who had little to do but when they did pretty much didn't put a foot wrong

Logie simply must be the full time captain. with him sitting more we looked much harder to carve open particularly 2nd half

Murphy was back to his very best after a few so so games

Burnell took his goal calm as ya like and his movement was a constant problem for Marlow

man of the match though surely has to be Sippetts who had his best game for Slough by a country mile. he held the ball and the couldn't get it off him at all. took his 2 goals very well also.

yes it was 1 game but it was a sign of what we are capable of and if we can recreate that on a regular basis we will be right up there

p.s the fans seemed to be a bit more supportive today from the start as well as the players looking well up for it. attitudes of players and fans was spot on

should be a good game with a Chippenham team that are going well in the level above

Appologies for the knee-jerk reaction but tonight that was a superb all-round team performance with what I would say was two of the best performances I've seen in a Slough shirt for some time in Sean Sonner and Gary Sippetts.

The two of them were just awesome from start to finish.

Have to agree, Sonner (again) put in a superb team performance and Sippetts showed us what a good player he is, his header was that of an experienced striker.

Marlow had one chance after about 5 minutes but thereafter they were pretty much 2nd best.

It's a shame the sending off and the injuries to Marlow players took some of the edge off. We should have been 3 or 4 up before then so the scoreline in the end reflected our performance.

Marlow have a major injury crisis unfortunately.

Can someone advise why we needed to change colours when there was no colour clash? The reverse applies to Saturday, why did Marlow change? Call me old fashioned but I like our amber and navy colours!

Did well last night, thought Marlow only really looked like scoring early on when it was 0-0 when Perks made a couple of good saves in a five minute spell of pressure they had. Even felt pretty comfortable at 1-0 to us and don't think the sending-off really changed the game at all as we were in control even at that point.

Got to real sorry for Marlow with all those injuries though. Lose their first choice left back in Johnny Gray last week through injury. Mark Avery comes in at left back then gets injured, so does then his replacement Craig Roberts!

Seemed to be a subtle change by Bates last night in the fact that Logie hardly seemed to leave the anchor role in centre midfield last night and left Swift and Coyne act as playmakers. Thought this helped out the defence really well and made us look a lot more solid and less susceptible to a quick counter attack and as a result kept our first clean sheet since Marlow away last April.

Interesting that Logie was named captain last night. I'm half expecting to see Burnell captain Saturday now! ;-) Be good if Bates came out in the local press and said that either NBH will be club captain if he comes back or confirmed someone else as captain, which I suspect is Perkins when fit. Last season we knew where we were Edgeworth captain and NBH vice. This season it's a revolving armband!

if Perkins is going to be in and out due to injury etc i think the simple thing to do is to just make Logie the captain full time. lets face it he will play most games although the captaincy is not that vital. do agree changing all the time makes a mockery of the role though.

Last nights game showed that we can play top level football. I thought that the formation would be broken down easier by Marlow as we only had 3 midfielders but in actual fact i think it turned out to be a master stroke by Bateman, Logie did very well infront of the defence and they completely negated Marlows quick breaks.

Coyne did have some wayward passes in the first half (i know i shouldn't criticise) but he made up for that in the second half when he played our strikers in beautifully.

Sonner was absolutely immense last night, he never gave up on anything and played for great balls through to Sippo and Burnell.

Sippo played very well last night, holding up the ball and having the calmness to play the right pass every time. Also i think he is our calmest player in front of goal and always finds the target.

Murphy played much better last night stopping evrything down the right wing and then pushing foward and delevering some great crosses.

Perks was also very good last night, plucking every ball out of the air. Also his kicking has improved since last season.

Also the long balls over the top worked almost every time last night allowing the stikers through on goal.

Overall it was a well deserved victory and it could have been more if it wasn't for Marlows keeper (who is by far their best player).

The ref was ofcourse a complete joke though.
