rate the ref referee

Recommended Posts

Stephen Hyde our ref today didn't do too bad.

He bottled it on penalties at both ends.

How can a player run across the box inside be brought down and get a free kick outside the box. I'm confused. But in fairness to him a few moments later at the other end on the pitch and he didn't give that at all so at least we got something!

Score 5/10 for an ESL ref and 7/10 for an Essex Intermediate Ref.

ETFC 1 Romford 2 - Can't help feeling that after the lucky away Sawbo match when we scooped all three points against the play we were never going to get any benefit of the doubt in this match. And so it was!

The linesmen did appear at times not to be following the match much, - not that it was that exciting.

Overall, I thought Mr Egglinton didn't do too bad today but he failed to add on the correct amount of injury time as Romford were guilty of time wasting. A couple of players went down unecessarily which is disappointing to see.

The linesmen today were poor and that makes things harder for the referee.

Southend Manor V Eton Manor, referee was excellent 7/10, however, let down by both linesmen.

Example 1: Eton Manor on the attack, Southend defender pushed the ball back into his own half and Linesman flagged for offside!!!! What!! has the FA changed the rules!!

Example 2:Southend Manor on the attack, ball loops over the top, Southend Manor player on the far side running back and no way interfering with play, linesman flags offside! Why!!!!

Just really poor pointless, brainless decisions!!

The FA need to spend more time looking at officials at this level, and less time deliberating over which type of coffee to put in their vending machines!!

Sorry if it appears I'm moaning, but it really pisses me off!

ETFC V Romford......Eggington(Brownlow) was his usual self.(3/10).

I was paying close attention to his 'watch-stopping' thoughout the second half.

I counted that he appeared to have stopped his watch on about 20 occasions, due to 5 substitutions, numerous injuries and general time wasting.

Concervative estimates amoung the fans, suggested between 8 and ten minutes to be added at the end of the game....How suprised we all were(not),when he blew after just 2/3 minutes off added time.

Must admit that he added a lot less on than most ESL refs, not sure if it was us time wasting though, more some indecision of the officials when things did happen.

What was all that throw in nonsense about, which finished up with Benstock giving you the ball underarm an you lot playing on.

Let me explain.....On sky's soccer A.M yesturday, they showed an old clip of a Man utd game, where Giggs stood infront of G.Neville whilst he was taking a quick throw-on,and done a sort of 'one-two' throwing the ball off giggs back...Neville then proceeded to run down the line and try to cross the ball.

It was explained that this was perfectly legal....obviously an F.A rule book hasn't found it's way to ESL officials.

Once it was wrongly deemed as a foul throw,in yesturdays game....Romford were awarded the throw...and Danny Benstock trying to be cheeky, attempted to throw it against the back of the Town player who was arguing with the ref....unfortunatly he missed and it landed at the feet of another Town player, who ran away with the ball.

i remember a player,i think dean saunders, throwing a ball against a keepers back who was out of his area and collecting the ball to score before the keeper could get back, and the goal stood. If you noticed yesterday though the lino motioned the throw was not from behind the head,so he was correct to flag foul throw.

I don't know the surname of the referee at Basildon v Enfield Town (his name wasn't printed inside the poor effort of a programme), but I gather his first name is Neil. That is also the score he gets out of ten! He was very weak and made some bizarre decisions. Nos 3 and 5 should definately have walked. No 3 complained at every descision made, used foul language and sparked the brawl. The tackle made by No 5 on Ridout was reckless to say the least and didn't even earn a booking. The yellow card Billy Cove received for 'time-wasting' was a joke. He had only just retrived the ball. Romford were guilty of genuinely wasting time on numerous occasions last week yet nothing was done about it.

Basildon V ETFC.....The ref fancied himself and was quite free with the 'sarky' comments and 'i'm the boss' routine....but when it 'kicked-off',he totally bottled it.

Arrogants combined with weakness,is not a good combination of atributes for a ref to have....but it seems to be almost mandatory in the ESL.

2/10.
