Player Motivation

Ok so for my two pence worth.......

I think it is important for players to be critisised, brings them back down to Earth and most of what is said on here is constructive. As has been said players should want to prove us wrong and some do up their game. An example would be many people on here were saying Sippo is too old (me included) and he comes on at Atherstone and scores and then celebrates with his old man walk, and since then he has earned his place ahead of some in the pecking order and I think his game has upped.

If all players had this attitude then great.......Prove us wrong.

Likewise, if we do win the league or go up im happy for players to come up to me and say "I told you so" or call me a [censored] fan for not believing in them or whatever so it works both ways.

Remeber though its more frustrating from a fans point of view when things are down. A player can move on but a fan cant

A lot of interesting comments guys regarding my thread. However, bear this thought in mind as you oil the wheels of industry ahead of tonights game with Marlow:

no player goes out onto the park to have a bad game. If you have had a shocker you know within yourself and dont need to be told be anyone else, especially by someone

who has never played the game. Just a thought.

As somebody who comes to less games than in the past, I rather held fire of commenting on the two matches I've been to this season. Both were 3-1 home defeats against Marlow and Daventry. In both matches the players were poor and criticism probably merited, but having not been to other games I did not feel in a position to pass comment, but for those supporters who have travelled to watch games week in week out, I feel the players (and management) were fair game for a bit of a backlash.

Given there were 100 or so supporters pleading for the referee to send our own player off (Ricky Browne) against Berkhamsted a few years ago, I think it would be pretty hypocritical for anybody on here to complain about what is written on the forum about players. Football is about opinions after all. Lets not forget Matt Platt clearly read what was put on here a couple of seasons back and rather than winge about the criticisms, responded in the correct manner and blasted his way to the golden boot and was able to ram the criticism he'd received back down the throat of the doubters.

I think people are missing the point here though, it’s not the criticism that’s the problem here.

The players realise that they are open to that because as fans we pay our money and the players get paid. As I said before they will get that at every club, unless they want to go and live at one of these clubs where they have no fans and nobody to cheer them on at games.

Don’t think there is anything wrong with saying “player ‘x’ had a poor game in my opinion”. That player probably knows that himself.

There are three problems for me:

- Some comments on here go from criticism to personal attacks and there is a fine line. Not on.

- Some players are constantly targeted by individuals it's like a witch-hunt commenting on every match they play at every opportunity.

- Were 6th in the table, 4 points off top. Sometimes reading comments on here you would think we were bottom. It's hardly doom and gloom as you would think reading some of the postings.

Guys: I was having a chat with a couple of the players after the Marlow game and it was said to me that some of the players are not happy with some of the

comments on here. I really think negative comments on here do the team no favours at all. We should be getting behind the team, not moaning on here when

we dont win every week. If you want to watch a team that wins every week go and follow Chelsea. Remember we are talking about part-time players, not the

likes of high earning Premiership players.

WR,

If the players you've talked to after the Marlow game mean that they are not happy with comments made on this forum that cross the line and become personal then I totally agree with them.

On the other hand this forum should be no different to any other football forum in the country where supporters discuss, debate and give their opionions on their team and the players performances whether good or bad without getting personal.

I can't see why any player would have a problem with this.
