Did Edinburgh get it wrong?

Bognor Regis Town defender John Price insists Justin Edinburgh got it wrong in a Bank Holiday penalty row at Nyewood Lane. Edinburgh, the former Spurs defender now in charge of Billericay Town, was convinced his side should have had a spot kick as they gave Rocks a battle for the premier division points. Goals from Steve Sargent, after just ten minutes, and new boy Lou Savage late on made it three wins out of four for Jack Pearce's newly-promoted Rocks.

They were never at their most constructive, however, and had to rely on some solid last ditch defending plus the help of the woodwork to pocket the points. Edinburgh confronted referee Brendan Malone at half-time and full-time to protest over the 20th-minute sliding tackle by Price on goalbound Gary Ansell which went unpunished. Bognor boss Pearce admitted it looked "a stone cold penalty" from the main stand but added: "Everybody out there says he got a foot to the ball."

Price, outstanding at the back for a below-strength home side, revealed: "I played the ball, ask any of the boys. The ref made a great decision because I played the ball nice and clean." Price, Edinburgh and surely even Pearce would agree Billericay had plenty of the ball. The Rocks defender, arguably their man-of-the-match, admitted: "It was a bit of a backs to the wall job but we dug in and got three points."

i was standing facing Ansell as he ran through and i think it was a great tackle by their fella. however from the angle justin would have seen it you can see why it looked a pen. for me the ref got this one right but would have been more than happy to see him get it wrong!

S'pose the frustration is that it was very similar to the one that went against us at Aylesbury - whether the decisions were good or not, both have gone against us at key points in matches. As it goes I didn't think the officials were bad on Monday - with the exception of the lino who failed to spot their second goal was well offside! As I said before all we need is a streaky win somewhere to do the team's confidence a power of good - I think a lack of confidence showed in some of our finishing on Monday.

If he did or didn't we still didn't get it and we're supposed to get on with the prep for the next game. I think Justin would've seen it as a penalty from the angle he was seeing it.

I belive Justin has had enough of dodgy decisions this season already given the calibre of the officials who appear to almost favour the oppo (especially Hitchin and Hayes who quite probably couldn't believe their luck)!!! There I've said it.

Now, let us continue onward and upwards (there ain't any other place to go now) and put the Bognor game to rest. We have 90 minutes to play and what is past is done. What is in the future is in the teams (and our) hands.

So, without further ado, lets look forward to Saturday (bloody hell, two Saturday home games in a row - what must the Ryman League be playing at!!!) and get behind the team 'cos we as supporters matter, we can help by giving the team the best support in the league.

Up the Blues!!!!!
