Slough Town 2-2 Marlow

Thought the boys showed good character and battling qualities to come back today as it was pretty obvious from kick-off that morale is at a bit of a low following recent results. Thought Burnell took his two goals well and was real a livewire today and we were a little unlucky not to nick it at the end.

From what i've seen of Marlow now think they are more than capable of play-off's and have a good side that have played together now for a couple of seasons. Should be a decent game on Tuesday and Coyne coming back in will certainally help the midfield. Lets just hope Perkins and Sincs injuries are not too bad as they are both important players for us, Sincs in particular who did great for the opening goal.

Was also good to hear some noise last 10 minutes behind the goal, so well done to whoever started that as it's been lacking this season.

For what it's worth Burnham drew 1-1 today, so we would not have been playing them anyway.

I think the last 10 minutes masked an otherwise poor performance. The distribution from our full backs was woeful today. Burnell's assessment coming off at half time was accurate.......we defended like six year olds. Another two goals from simple balls over the top that we couldn't deal with.

For most of the game I thought we were second best, lack of competant passing, weak tackles and backing of from the challenge.

Both there goals were avoidable if we had a defence which stayed switched on and read the incoming balls better.

Was only a couple of times in the first half where we showed we could play.

Last 15 mins of the second half we came alive and delivered the goods.

Both goals from Danny were what we have been lacking from the ginger one.

Some very poor decisions from the officials for both teams - also what happened to the injury/stopage time? the ref stoped the game for over 2 mins talking to their keeper about time wasting and the following substitution.

We have been asking for a 20 goal a season man and in Burnell i think we have found one. He showed that he can find the back of the neck and unlike others he is a natural striker.

Also i think Sam Bateman played very well today and di what Coyne often doesn't do, put his body on the line and go for tackles to break up the oppositions play.

Perkins and Yads played as though they weren't fully fit and this is concerning as if either one starts it is always inevitable that they will be subbed of first.

Steve Bateman needs to come up with a plan B quickly as our oppositions always work us out and adjust accordingly to slow us down.

2nd half we should good character and it was a much better improvement. at times it was terrible but we seemed much more commited to turning it around today compared to other bad days

defending is just ridiculously bad and 2 stupid mistakes yet again punished by a speedy striker

Coyne is available to come back but i would be tempted to give the ending lineup the chance to carry on where they left off at the end. Bateman did well and Logie had his best game for a while. saying that the passing at times was ridiculously bad. stop just hoofing it high to short strikers

our 1st goal was top class though. fantastic goal

Burnell definitely looks well capable of grabbing goals

Sonner just awesome work rate and some great flick ons

how there was no time added on i have no clue. terrible ref in general. the linesman we had up against our strikers 2nd half seemed clueless as well at times

at least a few signs of improvements in attitude at least. we seemed much more together coming out for 2nd half for once. defence and choosing to hit the ball high still needs to be sorted though sharpish

IWe couldn't get right on top due to Marlow's tactics (fair play to them) and the referee constantly slowing down proceedings for his chats with players. We gave them the first goal and probably the second although it looked a soft penalty. At the point they made it 2-1 I don't think Perks had had anything to do bar the goals.

In the second half we really couldn't get going due the aforementioned, but certainly deserved a draw. The offside decision against Sonner when through on goal was diabolical, I was right in line and it was NOT offside , no way.

Let's see how Marlow play at home where the onus is on them to attack more.

Sonner's best game for us, great team play by him, even when switched due to Sinclair's injury.

its same old story defence wise. just the odd stupid mistake and yet other than that barely a save to make for our keeper

i hear about some new guy we have coming in on loan from Farnborough is it?? anyone know more or if thats at all true even??

If Dave Anderson's NonLeagueShow podcast and twitter are to be believed, we were looking to get a guy from Farnborough and for Slough fans to "watch the website this weekend".

The game again was not allowed to flow too much , with the ref doing his utmost to spoil the game...

The Marlow goal keeper made 4 fantastic saves...

As for Yads..yes it was penalty no question ..but prior to that when the through ball was played , Yads was tugged back by the

same forward that eventually got the penalty ..I was really annoyed that this was allowed to continue , yads was trying to boot the ball

away but the marlow forward who had handfuls of yads shirt ..The same linesmans that allowed the first goal to stand for Marlow even though he was offside by a yard or so..

overall a draw was a fair result .....on the day...

thought that yads made the difference at the back when he came on and the longer the game went on the better the defence became, the only weak link though i am afraid was murphy he is a better player than what he is showing at the moment his defending is poor, his disribution is poor and he seems to pull out of tackles i think he needs a rest to let him assess his performance over the last few weeks, though who we can put in his place is a bit of a dillemma as we have no natural left back, so i sure hope that he hits form soon, sam bateman came in to the game a bit more in the last 20 or so minutes was a bit anonymous before that.sean sonner was excellent throughout and danny burnell seems to be what we have been looking for up front, and those who have complained about what the ref played over could not have checked their watches properly as at the final whistle he had played a full 3 minutes over at the whistle , one of the few things he did not get fully wrong as in my assumption it should have been a bit longer but not by much all in all i think it was a fair result lets hope that we can do a little better on tuesday see you all there.

Only the seconD game I've been able to get to this season but from yesterday's performance and recent results it looks as if we've gone backwards. Too infrequently dId we try to play a passing game and use the width of the pitch. That is how we've played when we've been at our most penetrating but we seem unable to play football or a passing game at the moment. That being said the players are good enough as was Bateman last season so I'm sure it will be turned around with a little time and effort.

I do see one problem area though, and that is the goalkeeper. Perks is simply not good enough, his kicking is worse than awful and he seems to be unable to inspire confidence in the defence. There was one very good keeper on the field yesterday but sadly he palys for Marlow. Why we didn't try to sign him when he left Didcot I don't know. Maybe we should still try if Jacko is too inconsistent and Perks can't correct his failings.

All the same COME ON YOU REBELS!

Few things I agree and disagree with here. First of all thought Murphy did OK yesterday. He seems to be one of the ones sufferering a bit at the moment low on confidence. Some people appear to have short memories where he was being touted as player of the season last year just behind Elliot and Simon Sweeney. I think he's the best left-back in the league. He's having a few troubles at the moment, as are a few of the guys, but he'll come through it i'm sure.

Think it's harsh to criticise Perks yesterday. Don't remember a kick that went out of play yesterday or that rolled along the ground (which was the problem last season). Thought his kicking was good. It's his first game of the season remember we don't have a reserve team so it's difficult to come in from the cold and start performing straight away. Thought he did well for his first game. As for the Marlow keeper seen him plenty of times before he's either brilliant or awful. Not what we need - just ask Maidenhead fans!

Also can we sometimes realise it's not always about us. Marlow are a good side that are top of the league. How about a bit of credit to them? Seems like some people think we have the right to turn up, control all the play and win 6-0 every game. That's just not going to happen.

As for the loan signing, I guess that will probably be delayed until the end of the week now as we don't have that league game Tuesday now, as the loaning club club will not want the player cup-tied and by signing him later in the week that gives us the option of playing another league game. With regards to NBH would be great to see him back although picked-up an injury with Pollok and will be out of action for about another 4 weeks according to their sources, so even if he does come back down south he would not be fit to play.

i too would say thats very harsh to slag off Perks. had little chance on both goals and caught basically every cross. no kicks straight off that i can remember. certainly did nothing wrong that Jackson hasnt many times this season.

the marlow keeper is indeed either incredible or shocking. concentration lets him down at times but when on form he awesome.

our passing today for about 60-75 minutes was far too long ball orientated despite us having 5ft something strikers. give them the ball and they will produce and score goals.

considering Sinclair wasn't playing 2nd half the front 3 worked fairly well at times. Sonner and Burnell could be a great partnership but must start passing to feet

Murphy does seem to be struggling a bit but most players are not on top form. Swift could play left back as an option if need be but i would not drop Murphy

At least there is someone with some sense on this forum!

Marlow are top of the league for a reason, because they are a good side and deserve to be there.

Slough are low on confidence at the moment so getting on the players back's is hardly going to help. Good players don't just become bad ones over night and you could see how much they lifted when they scored the 2nd goal. Can we remember the majority of this side just a few months ago go to the play off final!

Marlow are a good solid unit and we were lucky to come out of the game with a replay.

We have Danny Burnell to thank for that as his poaching instincts and knack of being in the right place at the right time saw him grab two good goals - also thanks to good service from Sonner and Logie. That first goal, a sweeping move on the counter-attack, was brilliant.

I too thought Perks did fairly well but looked susceptible in the air, flapping at a few things and I don't think his communication is as good as Jacko's. I'd still give him a run in the team now though to see if we fare any better. There is not a lot to choose between our two keepers.

I also rate Danny Murphy as one of the better left-backs in our league. People forget he's only about 22 and I also think he may be carrying a slight groin injury which he tweaked in the warm-up against Daventry last week.

One of our problems is playing long ball - I'm sure I heard Bates scream at the team to keep it on the deck a number of times. We won't get any joy playing long balls to Burnell and Sonner, however hard they try to compete in the air. Both of those strikers offer something very different and important to the side, but I feel we also need someone to hold it up - maybe Simon Martin who gets way too much unnecessary criticism in my opinion - in a three man attack?

Of course, there is the bloke from Farnborough to come as well whenever he's available - that'll be confirmed on the website as and when it's agreed.

Yes, Marlow are a good side but they're also a side that has progressed since last season, something I'm not sure we have. Nobody expects us to just turn up and win but it's perfectly justified for us, with the players we've added to last season's squad, to have improved. At the moment I'm not seeing that improvement. Apologies if that's not talking sense in your eyes, Tom.

Simon Martin is a very good player and as you say "gets way too much unnecessary criticism", other than his few weaknesses of not being able to head, not being able to read the game, bottleing challenges, and panicking when he gets the ball inside the 18 yard box. Other than these few weaknesses he is a very good player.

10 minutes from the end of Saturday's match, at 1-2 down, we were 100 minutes away (if we lost against Burnham) from only having the play offs left to play for. That would be far too early in the season for this to happen. The team has some very good players, and has potential, but is only showing limited organisation at present. I hope that this will change, but at present, overall, we are not as good as last year. We are not yet a good, solid, unit.

I wasn't commenting on how good a player Simon Martin is actually, but I guess when you have a grudge, you read things however you want. My biggest problem is that criticism quite often spills over into abuse - there is a fine line.
