Dare I say Guildford could be the new favourites. Unbeaten and taken 6 points of Cambo and Chertsey. Mind you if they did win the league we would be back to the dark days of sides winning the league without a ground capable of going up.

Guildford City 2 v 0 Chertsey Town,at an early stage of the season looks like the C.C.L. Title chase is going to be an exciting one.

GUILDFORD SWEENEY WELL DONE ! YOU'VE BEEN VERY QUIET LATELY ESPECIALLY WHEN YOUR TEAM HAS BEEN DOING REALLY WELL !

WHATS YOUR HONEST THOUGHTS ON LAST NIGHTS GAME? AS SMUDGE SAYS, THIS SEASON COULD BE A CLOSE AND EXCITING ENCOUNTER TO FIND THE CCL CHAMPIONS....STILL ALONG WAY TO GO THO' ! IT ONLY NEEDS A TEAM TO HAVE A GOOD RUN BUT ALL CLUBS SEEM CAPABLE OF BEATING EACH OTHER ON THEIR DAY WHICH MAKES THE LEAGUE EXCITING. ALTHOUGH EARLY DAYS, ''ALMOST'' EVERYONES FAVOURITES CHERTSEY HAVE NOW LOST 3 GAMES AGAINST TOP CONTENDERS : CAMBERLEY, CHESS & HOOK AND GUILDFORD. TO WIN THE LEAGUE YOU NEED TO BEAT THE CLOSEST RIVALS TO STAND A CHANCE AND NOT LOSE TO THE LOWERT HALF CLUBS WHICH IS BECOMING ALSO DIFFICULT

GREAT STUFF...... WELL DONE CCL CLUBS !

Can second place get promoted, thought it was only champscoffee%20%282%29.gif

In the event that Champions can't go up, 2nd placed can be nominated but you have to remember that 14 Step 5 teams are chasing 12 promotion positions - there is more likelihood that there are 12 Champion teams but you never know.

Not sure if / when 2nd placed team from CCL Prem last got promoted

There are only 14 step 5 leagues these days GF.

Once the champions who want to go up and have the grading have been taken out of the equation, any remaining places are given to the second placed clubs. It's decided on a points per game basis. Last season Witham finished second in the Essex Senior League but didn't get promotion. This is the first time an eligible team has been denied promotion on points per game.

More and more clubs around the country are getting their grounds done up and more are applying for promotion each season. It won't be long before a club that finishes top aren't allowed up as they didn't get enough points per game during the season. It may even happen this year.

Meanwhile teams at step 4 are still being reprieved.....

The CCL bulletin I received this morning said that Hartley Witney failed to fulfil the fixture. That is all that was said, so maybe someone has more information on that.

With regard to Guildford, I cannot understand how anyone who has seen them or knows some of the players they have is surprised at how well they are doing. Mr Rayner has got quite a talented squad - the two Joels up front are quality and will be getting fitter now. Steve Baker will recall my notes on that. Gibbs out wide is a real player, plus they have signed another lad who needed clearance and is supposed to be the "dogs". I think that may be Camara. Cooper at the back is top notch, and the rest of the squad are decent. We drew there on first Wednesday of the season and took a bit of stick for a poor performance, but I took it as a midweek Wednesday night point probably earned at the time and stand by that. Sometimes people look at the usual suspects and assume they will be in the mix, but the league has far more depth now and attracts much better players. Sweeney and his mates may prefer to keep a low profile, but Guildford certainly are no mugs and, if they keep the squad together, will have a big say in things.

Just keeping a low profile really, happy to be in the background as far as possible. Football is far too fickle for me to come on here celebrating our victories all the time!

Manager50 is completely right. Last year we may have been underestimated a little, but that doesn't happen now - people know that we have some real quality this season and probably won't be surprised to see us up there. It'll be an interesting season, that's for certain.

By all accounts we did pretty well last night. To pick ourselves up after a pretty gutting defeat on Saturday was always going to be hard against Chertsey - but the lads managed it so well done to them!

We're not getting carried away just yet, there's a long way to go, but it's pretty enjoyable at the moment. Now just looking forward to Horley Town in the Vase on Saturday!
