Trapped Chile Miners

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure whether members will agree but I really can't fathom out what all the fuss is about with the 33 Chilean miners who are supposedly trapped by a rock collapse in a 500 square foot passage near to the city of Copiapó, 530 miles north of the Capital Santiago. They all seem perfectly fine with plenty of food and creature comforts and will no doubt be rescued in due course, each getting their fifteen minutes of fame before the whole thing blows over and is forgotten about

I would have thought that the plight of those brave miners, who could be incarcerated for up to six months in unimaginably horrible conditions, and must be fearful of ever seeing their loved ones again, is a far more newsworthy story than all those useless celebrities you idolise and seem so obsessed with.

I can only assume that your lack of symphony is due to the fact that you also have a job fraught with danger like perhaps pushing a pen around countless bits of paper, or even staring into a computer screen all day.

Horace likes this reply!

Have you ever been down a coal mine Rhodes? I have, for about 2 hours. It was dreadful! The thought of being trapped for months is unimaginable.

Have you ever been down a coal mine Rhodes?

One of those things that could be arranged.

Loosely - Trust you to make such a comment, why can't you just keep quiet if you haven't got anything worthwhile to say. When have Chile ever been interested in our (British) activities and look how ungrateful the Chileans were over the infamous General Pinochet episode when we released him back to Chile on supposed medical grounds in March 2000 rather than extraditing him to Spain for his heinous crimes and human rights abuses which left such a sour taste in the mouth at the time.

Whats that got to do with human beings trapped in a mine Rhodesly? I hardly think they give a toss over British relation with Chile over the abortion that was Pinochet and his biggest fan Maggie Thatcher - may her soul rest in hell.

Loosely - It has everything to do with Pinochet, don't you see my point that Chile showed no gratitude whatsoever when we foolishly put him on a flight to Santiago rather than Madrid in March 2000 so why should we show any concern for a few miners who have been inadvertently trapped underground. Anyway they're seemingly living the life of Riley and I would say are far better off than they would be normally if they were going about their normal business.

Yes Rhodesly, taking on board your completely irrelevant argument I can report that you are 100% definitely a c0ck.

Loosely - Why do you say that, why can't you just add positively to the debate

Anytime you are ready to start Cliffy. You stop being a c0ck and we can have a serious debate.

Maggie Thatcher - may her soul rest in hell.

Okay, well as a starter for ten why do you state the above. Maggie Thatcher was the iron lady who, for example, fought the Argentinians in their own back yard and won and somehow managed to destroy the power of the dictatorial trade union movement such as evil Arthur Scargill and so called 'Red Robbo', the hard line shop steward Derek Robinson who repeatedly brought British Leyland to a standstill costing some £200m in lost production at the beleaguered Longbridge plant

Well Cliffy, I'm certain that we are all well overdue for some answers from you so perhaps you can tell us why you want to link the humanitarian efforts to rescue ordinary working men with political events from over twenty years ago, why any humane relief operations anywhere around the world should be drawn into past arguments or international tiffs?

Maybe if we saw you willing to explain yourself you might get a bit of quid pro quo. Besides, it seems that your own question requires a lengthy "encyclopedic" response.

Loosely - All I'm saying is that the efforts to rescue the trapped Chilean miners should simply be kept in house, why turn it into something like Big Brother and broadcast it to the World and its wife as who is really interested outside of the South American Country. The miners will no doubt be safely rescued by a Scott, Virgil, Alan or Gordon Tracy in a months time, or however long it takes, and the whole episode will soon be forgotten.

If Arther Scargill and Derek Robinson are evil, in your eyes, just for defending the rights of ordinary working people, in what category do you think that you fall into for defending convicted murderers, like Amanda Knox, bloodthirsty tyrants, like Thatcher, and all the useless celebs you so idolise.

Officialspokesman - I find that post really strange, the unscrupulous trade unions were the scourge of our proud Nation until Maggie Thatcher stood up to them and put the likes of Arthur Scargill in their place. Like I said hard line shop steward Robinson brought British Leyland to its knees costing £200m in lost production, surely you didn't agree with his heinous actions at the time

Rhodes

Even a heartless sole like yourself must have been moved to tears as you watched the first of those brave miners brought to the surface to be reunited with their loved ones.

Today's coverage of the events was television at its very best, but I reckon that you will have some kind of warped response telling us how, Strictly Come dancing, The X Factor etc, are far more worthy programmes to grace our TV screens.
