Ursuline academy 6 v 1 Dover Grammar

A season as passed since these 2 teams last met at this stage of the competition. On that occasion Dover I believe ran out 4-0 winners.

2 weeks ago the teams met in the league, Ursuline fielding a much older side, a mixture of 1st, 2nd and 3rd year 6th formers, ran out 4-1 winners.

Today was an unknown, being restricted by the age limit to 1st year students. saying this one name will stand out to those of you who have been to Hartsdown and watched the reserves or read my match reports, Tom Peachy. Tom seems to have been around for ages a fact that belies his age. Still qualifying for under 18's football.

From the whistle the Ursuline team, kicking up the slope put Dover under pressure. It took only 2 minutes for the home team to open the scoring. Rye connected with a volley of the outside of his right boot putting the ball in the net. 1-0.

on 3 Arnold Murrage had a shot go wide of the left post. Rye got into the right corner putting a cross over and onto the head of Murrage for the ball to go over.

Dover came more into the game, a more open contest saw chances go begging at both ends.

On 18 Martin Austin hit a drive just over the resulting goal kick , found a home player and the ball was taken through the away defence forcing the keeper to charge out of his area to clear.

On 19 Chris Uden collected the ball out left just inside the Dover area, ran through the defence into the area only to see his shot over.

Dover then went on the offensive and brought the scores level. 1-1

On fire Martin Austin in another fine home move picked up the ball, centre edge of the box and drove it through the legs of 3 Dover defenders into the net 2-1. The following Ursuline attack saw Chris Uden brought down on the left outside edge of the box. The resulting free kick was put just over by the increasingly inspirational Josh Merry.

Tom Peachy climbed high in the pack to see goal bound header again from a Merry cross, bring out a great save from the Dover keeper who palmed the ball over. The resulting corner was cleared only as far as a home boot which put the ball over.

Dover had two final fores int the Ursuline half. One a lovely ball whipped in from the right cutting at-rack right across the home goal, fortunately no one made contact and the ball went out for a goal kick.

Half time 2-1.

The second half started with both sides having chances. A Merry cross again found Peachy's head, saved.

Dover burst through the home defence, pushing the ball past the advancing Dudley, surely they must score, no, it was put wide.

A long spell of midfield play was broken when Dover broke through and forced a corner, the resulting clearance saw Merry clear, he put in a gem of a cross that was scrambled clear to Connor Clapton, clapton's shot was again cleared but, only as far as himself, again he put a shot in, this time just a little high.

One minute later saw a maize run by Chris Afuape pull a class save out of the Dover keeper.

Another shot on 55 by merry just wide.

The next cross in by Merry saw Austin head the ball in for his second 3-1.

Changes were then made. Uden and Afuape going off to be replaced by Blaize and Lagahding.

Blaize was the next to go close when a move down the right saw him put the ball wide. The Dover 10 brought down Blaize as he charged into the box. Austin stepped up to take the resulting penalty, 4-1 and a hat trick to Austin.

The game flowed from one end to the other, this run being broken when Austin again connected and put a a right cross into the Dover net 5-1 and 4 to Austin

Again the management rang the changes. taking the4 goal Austin off for Mott, another spell of midfield stalemate and again the Ursuline camp rang the changes. Rye and Merry off Clark and Lucas on.

The game again ebbed and flowed, both sides having chances. Clark went down the right resulting in a Ursuline corner. The corner taken by Langahding resulted in Blaize putting it in the net for 6-1. The final 5 minutes was again midfield before referee Will Sanderson blew for time.

Man of the Match. I had 2 choices but 4 goals gave it to Martin Austin. Roll on the next round
