Kingstonian v Margate Line-Up

TBH I cannot actually remember us ever winning on penalties. Certainly lost on them at Forest Green (where I dont think we converted any) and against Grays (where we scored one or two).

On the bright side, that is now 6 games without defeat (in playing time) and another game where the team that are 3rd have needed a sending off and 3 missed penalties to knock us out.

Another dire ref by the sound of it, all too eager to please the home fans and satisfy his ego. We could have done without that sending off.

Shame our two penalty specialists weren't on the pitch at the time of the shootout. Welford and Cloke, and also Pinnock is pretty good at them.

The two best keepers in the league on show tonight definitely. Really rated Tolfrey when I've seen him. Someone from a higher league could snap him up and he'd not let them down.

Take it out on Sutton lads.

Don't like to labour the point about the ref but for instance the late Cloke sub that didn't happen. How many times do we see teams try and make a sub when the player is messing about with his laces or grabbing a shirt. It happens a lot to us, and the ref knew he was blowing the whistle when the ball was back in play anyway! Petty.

We beat Worcester City on pens in the SL Championship match in 2001at Hartsdown Steve.

(Which reminds me - can you alter the Merit Cup details on the new honours list bit on the website?)

ok folkes just my opinion and i was there.

Played well in patches first half and slightly against the run of play scored. very well taken by Wayne crept in by post and bar.

Went in 1 up. Second half they dominated and scored. JT made wonderful saves a t times to keep us in it and the defence played well generally. We had a good last five but by then had no players up front as sean welford was sent off for two inocuous challenges that got him yellow cardsand Ismail had also been subbed.

The extra time played in wetter coditions was pretty even and you know about the penalties. Some great goal keeping by both goalies though.

Ref yes poor because he became a homer as time went on. Shaun sending off rediculous. Kingston looked the better side this time but we battled on gamely. Curtis once again excellent but i think all the backs played well. Not sure how our injuries stand now with the next big game on Saturday.

I was also at the match and agree with Geoffs comments. I would add that the Gate did not really get their passing game going at all and are capable of playing much better football, The Ref was a complete Homer from the start, I think there were 4 or 5 Margate players booked and Welford sent off, for tackles that were no worse than ones that the Kingstonian players were making but not even getting spoken too. As for the melee at the end after the prenalties that was again down to poor ref decisions and our players getting frustrated that the Kingstonian Goal Keeper was allowed to stand a good 5 foot in front of his goal line when the 3 penalties we missed were taken. I thought the rules stated that the Goal Keeper had to be standing on his line.

I think it is fair to say that on the night the better team won and go through however IMO it is also fair to say that Margate were not beaten by Kingstonian but by 3 idiots in black that clearly showed last night that they had not got a clue about the rules or fair play and should not even be put in charge of childrens football. Yes i accept that referees are only human and are likely to make mistakes occasionally but surely it is not too much to ask for them to be consistant and fair to both sides throughout the match.

The standard of refs in this level of football can't get any worse if they do lets just pick 3 fans from the crowd and give them a whistle.
