Never be a Ref.

Received a call this morning,Smudge can you do us a favour,the Ref we had has let us down,you was a Ref once upon a time help us out.So me thinking the Fees must of gone up in line with inflation,a nice little earner for 2 hrs work.Arrived up the Purley Way playing fields nice and early,to do a little warm up before a 10.30am K.O.One team was there keen as mustard,the Home team arrived at 10.20am.Well being Old School,I made a bee line for the home team Manager,introduced myself,and then enquired about my Fee,when he took 3 crisp £10 notes out of his wallet,my face was a joy to see,that's the hard bit done,now down to the Reffing.Kicked off at 10.40,all went well for 5 minutes,I was a good ref no moaning,until this stupid idiot upends the oppo in the box,Stonewall Penalty the away team thought and I was in agreement,but by giving this decision 11 Players and,A Manager were no longer my friends.Good job I had got me money up front.But now they were calling for everything,but thankfully they equalised 1-1 peace and quiet resumed again.All my past had been forgotten I was a NICE GUY again.Even given a half time drink to energise me for the 2nd half. But as is my luck of late,the away team forward scores from an Offside position,I disallow the Goal and what was a good Ref. in the first half,is now a crap one in the 2nd.It seemed that whatever I decision I gave was met by REF,REF, REF,REF,now not being a man to fill the coffers of the F.A. I was not into dishing out the cards,well the truth is Ihad left them at home,so couldnt.But you will never hear me ever again,criticise a Ref.My experience today, TAUGHT ME THAT THEY HAVE NO FRIENDS ONCE THE WHISTLE BLOWS,AND THAT PLAYERS,DO NOT KNOW THE RULES OF THE GAME,SO SMUDGE GOES INTO REFFING RETIREMENT. I may of not been the best Ref,but even the chap that rang me to get me there in the first place,never said thanks after the game,why his Team lost.But without me there would of been no game. I LOVE REFS IS MY NEW MOTTO,SHOULD ALL BE KNIGHTED.

I spent another damp afternoon at Meadowbank this Sunday, most of it in the home dugout, watching the DLFC beat Haywards Heath Reserves 5 - 1 !
