Today at the Swifts

Recommended Posts

It could (and should) have been more than 2-0.

De Souza hit the post after beating three defenders on the edge of the box, and Oaks blasted a tap in out of the ground after excellent work down the wing (Graham?).

It was a alround solid performance.

Heybridge were pants!

Helski, in answer to your question: you need to see a pattern that has followed City for a while. Looking at the recent games...

Carshalton ... Poor

Ford ... Better

Hitchin ... Poor

Heybridge ... Good

Now see if you can guess what comes next.

Hayes ...

How soon we forget. We played some of our best football of the season at Hayes last year [according to Cookie]. OK we were 3 down by halftime but... and the home game, we would have won that if the defence hadn't been mesmerised by that great loon of a goalkeeper coming up for a corner in the last minute. Should at least be interesting on Saturday, if nothing else. I wonder if Naylor will be playing.

Quite right, GHA. They were running us ragged within a minute or so of the kick-off.

Rob. I think the famous quote "We played some of our best football of the season in the first half [at Hayes]" was attributed to Roberts rather than Cookie. When I read it in the matchday programme following the game, I thought that, either that chap that ghost writes the Manager's page in the programme was 'having a laugh' or that he had become confused and was talking about a Carlisle game that took place on the same evening. Easily done.

I hear that Naylor is out for a week or so and that Smith's injury is not good. However, Murray was a revelation at left full back for the hour or so that he was on the pitch. No problem there. You would have enjoyed Monday had you made the game, of course.

Hi H.B.

Welcome back. You missed complete rubbish on Saturday and some very good football on Monday.

I don't think that anyone took the team-sheet from the dressing-room to the referee one hour before kick-off for either game, actually. The chap who used to drive the red tractor was otherwise engaged, and Mr & Mrs Brew were away, too. All in all, I'm surprised that either game was able to take place.

The club have saved the £1,000 per game that they pay you [unless you negotiated holiday entitlement in your package?] but we could have the 3 points from Heybridge deducted. I wouldn't mind replaying the Hitchin game if that's an option. We would have to put up with watching them hoofing it all game, but, from Monday's performance, it would seem that we have now moved on to Plan B.

Saturday.
