Westfield 6 - Cobham 1

I would say that Cobham started the much stronger without creating any clear cut chances. We then scored against the run of play, and Jurgs chucked one in (sorry mate). This seemed to rock Cobham and we then got a penalty which some players protested about but it certainly sounded like a penalty.

Second half we scored almost immediately, and Cobham then hit the bar. We dominated for 25-30 mins which resulted in 2 more goals, and the Cobham skipper getting sent off for being an idiot. Cobham scored late on after a wee error at the back.

The scoreline perhaps flattered us a little but then with all the Cobham pressure at the start they created little. Nice to get some goals, and have 6 different scorers!

Pretty much spot on there Henry! Was at fault for the second although we let the cross come in far to easily. Sorry but the pen was a shocking decision by the ref (who I thought was generally poor for both teams throughout the game). You only had to see where the ball went (sideways and back away from the goal, whilst the player was running towards it) to see if was a perfectly timed goal saving tackle - as last man surely our defender should have been yellow, if not red carded!!!!

We actually hit the bar first (big turning point IMO), then you almost immediately went up the other end and scored. After that we totally lost it as individuals and a team, which resulted in a sending off and some abysmal defending.

Fully deserved win for you, although after the first 30 I don't think anyone would have predicted that scoreline!

Ref was poor, we've had him already this season and he was rubbish then too. As I say it sounded bad and since the linesman was not prepared to help the ref I can see why he gave it as he was miles behind play. If, as you say, the ball went back and sideways it's a simple one for the lino to help with. I think the fact he didn't send him off shows uncertain he was.

Fair enough if it was that way round, it seemed like we scored immediately. I agree, half hour in no way people would have thought it would be like that. You made a couple of decent stops or it could have been a lot worse!

Yeah I believe we have too and he was also poor then! That's the problem though, they are there to "assist", yet half the time don't. Like you say the ref was miles behind yet the line was up with play and didn't flag.....surely he is meant to if he believes a fould has been committed and therefore a pen should be awarded? As he didn't then surely the refs uses his common sense and goes with his official who has the much better view?

2-0 at h/t isn't as bad as the 3-0 scoreline was!!

You still deserved it though so no complaints about the result.

Steve fair comment but I was more trying to get Tempie to understand how his post read and TBH his subsequent respones have only backed up the thought that his attitude was one of holier than thou really.

It was not meant to be a slur on Egham as a club and if it read like that then I apologise.

No worries Kroons !

Do you know the ref we had Saturday ?

Top draw !

My view on the game:

I thought the ref was very good. JR has a point about him allowing the red carded player to return to the bench, but that apart couldn't fault him.

He had no view of the slap, but the lino would've been next to me, so how he decided yellow I haven't a clue. Although it seemed a mild slap at the time, it was a slap and so mandatory red. Sawyers is a lucky boy.

Nailed on penalty, silly challenge from the defender.

Finally Steve, most important of all - is it Grave or Graves??

When asked why the ref didn't senf off the Cobham player he said he didn't feel like it. Lino also said to our bench it wasn't a pen but can't overule the ref. Surely even after the ref has made the decision the lino can call him over because at the end of the day its about getting the final decision right. But don't let that take away from us getting smashed. Westfield were excellent at times and Daryn Hennessy was very good. Still don't know why we (Woking) released him when he was doing well and was better than what we had and don't know why he went to Westfield.

Another lino that has bottled heling the 3rd team on the pitch make a good decision. In fairness though, he probably did it once, got bollocked by the ref or assessor afterwards and won't do it again. I remember lining a Chiltonian game years ago and the referee gave a penalty. The other assistant started flagging cos there was a bit of handbags which the referee could not see and at halftime the ref said to the assistant "I was hoping you were flagging to tell me it was not a penalty" (why he gave it if he was not sure is another question). The assistant replied saying it was just for the handbags and last time he flagged to tell the ref it was not a pen, he got bollocked for it.

Krooner, can you put your assessors hat on. Would the lino be applauded for saying the decision was wrong, or would the ref get bollocked for losing control of the game to his assistants?

Some fence sitting coming on here.

Most refs instructions are if I give a pen do not overrule me. This is on the basis that a ref only gives a pen he is 100% certain on. Really difficult to say as it would depend on the situation etc.

I have come across some AR's that want to ref the game for you. I once watched a game with 1 such AR and he tried to give a penalty that was so clearly not even though the ref was saying no and was on top of the incident. The ref then got lambasted by one bench for not giving it and the AR got it in the neck from the other for trying to give it. Ref then loses control over one team because of his AR. That is why I would suggest I would never expect an AR to try and get the ref to change hi mind. The one exception would be if there was a reason such as offsdie or ball out of play before the incident happened.

Sounds fine to me. I spose if the ref if not sure and feels the assistant has a good view, he should give a little look to the assistant.

Crazy as it may sound we actually played quite well! We even started the better of the two teams but conceded a very poor first two goals and the ref gave them the third and fourth. Four goals came in the first 12 minutes of the second half and we were fully buried. For the last 30 minutes we defended well and even caused a few concerns for them. Excuses aside they were a fantastic team that are many peoples favourites for promotion and have big, strong athletes all over the pitch and produced quality football throughout most of the game. Our keeper is 18 and back four were, 18,18, 18 and 21 years old yet they battled from start to finish. It was summed up that in the last five minutes we had a four on two breakaway from one of their corners yet Chelmsford sprinted back to keep a clean sheet and were harassing the ref to add on more stoppage time! The score wasn't flattering as their finishing was top drawer but there manager commented that they played that well against Lewes last week and only won 1-0! All credit to Chelmsford who were fantastic on and off the pitch to everyone at CTFC. I knew for sure Chelmsford are all but a professional team when we arrived to be presented with a 60 page full colour match programme that wouldnt be out of place in the Premiership! It was a lesson for us but thankfully we wont have to face anyone at that level again this season and if we can play with that attitude we wont be far away from silverware this season, we have had a good run in the FA Cup beating two sides from Step 4 and now we can concentrate on the League and the FA Vase

Lammas 1-2 Worcester Park

Very dull game which never lived up to its expectations, A poor second half performance lost us the game, First half maybe we should have gone a couple up after Ray Randalls free kick crashed against the post and Jamie Lee Smitthers put a 1 on 1 wide. Second half Park came out the Blocks quicker and scored 2 goals in a minute. We equalised threw George Baldock who topped of a great performane with a lovely lob! 2 defeats in the last 2 is not good enough and wont get us promoted. lost 4 now and have massive games left, with another one saturday away to Farnham! Must win!

It was not meant to be a slur on Egham as a club and if it read like that then I apologise.

... and I was the angry Egham fan gobbing off at the charmless goon Sam Sawyer who claimed that his cowardly back hander into Matt Grave's kisser was "just pushing him away after he grabbed me". Cobblers, mate. We reckon that the only reason this particular excuse for a player got away with a yellow was cos the ref bottled sending off two players at the same time. In all honesty I did not see the tackle for which Joe Chandler was dismissed. I will probably be on "smack in the Facebook" cos fellow Sarnie Mike had remembered to bring his handicam. Not the first time we have had trouble with charmless nerks at Meadowbank, which is a shame cos their committee could not possibly be nicer. We will have to be a lot better than this in future though. Dorking were limited even with a full complement and did not score our second until Chandler had walked.

No, Kroons, still don't see where you get your attitude about me or Egham from. I suggest you read the above again, and you will see that I was commenting on two incidents in one game against a club with whom I have, as a club, no problem, but whose players have, at times, acted like total dickheads. In the light of Steve's comments about the ref then I feel more sanguine about his disciplinary actions. As far as Grave or Graves is concerned, well, we were at Sandhurst Town last season when Jim Hughes, who phones in the stuff that the NLP almost always ignores, was heard by the player in question and shouted out "No S!" Since then I have only referred to him as Grave - but not as grave as the slap he got on Saturday. Kroons, let's agree to disagree. We have a new round of matches coming up, and doubtless a new set of controversies to chew over.

Sounds good to me Tempie. I have one request. You put your view and I put mine. At no point did I feel the need to use a swear word. I would ask that next time I post something you do not agree with you refrain from those sort of actions. Steve put a reply that was in context and actually made me rethink what I put and how I put it and from that I apologised for something that I do not intend to mean but can understand how it was construed as that.

Fire away home opinion is always wanted theres always two sides to a story

As you say the game was over within the first 20 minutes 3-0 up and you not having a shot on target. 2nd half you kept the ball very well but never really threatened, apart from when the big lad came on upfront took his goal well and caused us a few problems. Was disappointed by the attitude of some of your players, especially the captain (i presume thats you?), with comments like "im going to smash you all over the pitch" and the after the game rubbish!! Kicking players off the ball, thought i had given up Sunday football to get away from that S**T. Were no saints, but for the whole 90 minutes!! took my enjoyment out of the 3 points.

The words were we'll smash you at our place meaning on the pitch but you take it as you like ! Yes i kicked out after i thought was a foul on myself to which there was an arm swung from your cf let me add i shook his hand at the end an said what a good player i thought he was! You are no saints qfter one of your cfs went ove. The ball into our cb to which he has a nasty gash an could of broke his leg saying it wasnt a foul but your other cf telling him he went way over the ball says somthing really! Words are words an i may be old school but what goes on the pitch stays on the pitch ! As for kicking out at any other point i actually apologised to your lb for catching him wen he ran across me not once but twice !! I dont have to explain myself im a pretty hard footballer thats all some can take it an give it some cant But some or most forget there own actions way to easily ! On the frustrating side i was expecting more of park but thought we handed it to you apart feom the great free kick !!! Funny thing is if you actually ask your cfs i was talking to em but then the minor clash with frustration came in from both myself an your cf but after i still shake hands with that sais player an tell what agood player he was !!
