Slough Town vs Daventry Town

Good first half where we could have been 2 or 3 up.

Second half was yet another capitulation - easy goals, woeful defending, absent midfield, weak attack.

Forget winning the leauge, forget the playoffs, and just hope we make it above half way.

As for Daventry, it was good to see they have transfered the care in the community scheme to the pitch - I hear they keep the number 6 shirt for the "special" person.

Finished 1-3. You have to ask how, with so many individually good players, we manage to collectively play so poorly. We absolutely cannot defend that's for sure and we didn't exactly do much to create good service for the front two either (Sonner/Burrell). I thought Sean worked his backside off today.

Questions asked of the management I'd suggest.

First of all congratulations to Daventry on winning the league today, fully deserved and delightful that they decided to celebrate with the Slough fans behind the goal rather than the five fans that made the trip from Davenrty.

As for us, what has happened? Coasting first-half and well on top but could not get the second-goal with all the chances we made. The first and especially third goals we conceded you won't see in an Under 12's match tomorrow down the local park.

I don't know id Perks and Yiads have done something to Bates but i'm amazed both are not in the side. Jacko has been given his chance in my opinion and not taken it, so Perks deserves a chance and Yiads did not do a lot wrong and was dropped. His partnership with Seeby during pre-season during games at tough places like Chesham and Wealdstone were excellent, so I don't see why he was dropped.

One thing also I think is the midfield does not help the defence enough. Our midfield is great and really pleasing on the eye going forward, but defensively for me there are big issues. When an attack breaks down you'll sometimes see Logie ahead of the ball, Swifty wide left and Coyne wide right leaving the midfield wide open to cut through on the counter attack which has happened far too many times this season. Someone needs to hold.

Still think we'll make play-off's but things will have to improve to even do that. As for winning the league it's looking a mega tough ask, especially as Hitchin only lost 4 games in the whole of the last season and we've lost 3 already.

One plus poiint today I thought was Burnell. Looked lively first half and played on the shoulder of the defenders. Second-half he had no chance when we reverted to hoofball. Some big decisions for Bates to make methinks.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Defenders who cannot defend (and if anything our defense is getting worse), strikers who can't score. Sadly there is no way the current side will get automatic promotion and they are very unlikely to make the play offs.

Was disappointed to see the new striker (who has anexcellent past record) is nearly as short as Sonner. We needed someone big and strong who can get in and mix it, creating space for others to use, sadly I fear we have got more of the same (though I hope I'm wrong).

I'm really ****** off with such a feeble performance, and am starting to think that if the management cannot get a talented group to play as a team, then they need to change.

I can't believe people are asking the management to change, that's unbelievable! 8 games into the season with a changed squad from last year with a management that got to the play-offs, changing the management wouldn't help at all.

I do want to know what Perks has got to do at the moment to get a game. Jacko was at fault for the first goal again and there are so many times where he is putting the defence under pressure that it's got the stage where I don't think they trust him anymore.

I think we missed Perkins too, Harper just isn't up to it and I agree with Chris why wasn't Yeboah brought on?

Saying that if the chances had been taken in the first half - Sonner missing an open goal and Burnell's 1-on-1 - it might have been a different game.

Bateman needs a plan "B" as once the oposition work out how to play us, as Daventry did at half time, we then look hopeless.

In the games last season and this, where teams have worked us out we have come un-stuck and Bateman then does not know how to change it round to then re-take the initative.

With the experianced Anderson now along side, this is somthing that should already be in place, but as today proved is still missing.

Lots of good players, but not a team, the management need to have the vision and creativity to get this lot functioning and winning.

I think it's time to stop pussy-footing around.

I'm fed up to the back teeth with continually giving away soft goals and letting average teams like Daventry come away with the points.

As far as I'm concerned basic errors are being committed by our defenders, in the main in our left back position or down the middle of our defence compounded by some poor goalkeeping.

In the first half we looked quite good and but for some good goal-keeping could have gone in at half time easily 2 or 3 up.

Second half, with Harper on for Perkins our defence decides to stop doing the basics i.e. marking an opposing attacker and we are 3-1 down before you can say [****!!****]-up.

1st goal Murphy again failed to shut down their right sided player who had time for a party before he lobbed Jacko from a relatively acute angle.

Another goal was a straight forward punt up-field which Harper failed to deal with and the other goal a Daventry player was allowed to score at the near post with combined responsibility falling to Harper and Jacko.

Our mid-field does look a bit wide open but you cannot make a defence for defenders who either don't mark properly or allow a simple punt up-field turn into a goal.

The defence needs sorting out big-time.

As people have said what has Yads done wrong? What has Perks done wrong?

IMO when Perkins got injured Yads should have come on. At the beginning of the season the Yads/Seeby partnership looked quite promising but for some reason is no longer in favour.

We need another left back to give Murphy some competition because at the moment a lot of the goals were conceding are coming from his failure to properly mark his man.

I make no appologies for naming players because I think it's time to put up or shut up.

half time we should have been probably 2-0 at least but it seemed like it could be a straightforward win. NOPE the absolutely shockingly bad miss by Sonner with open goal proved vital as we yet again came out asleep after half time and chucked goal after goal away in ridiculous fashion

i like jacko but sorry Perks simply must come in next game. jacko has become a liability and tbh almost every shot it seems all season has gone in. obviously not all his fault but the first goal today was awful mistake. come or stay not neither!!

2nd goal against was hard to take as well tbh. not the sort of cross that should result in a goal. defender was behind the man and jacko commited to diving and goes in front post instead

3rd goal was just a typical goal where Harper gets caught by high ball and then done for pace

Burnell at least ran with the ball but we never passed to strikers 2nd half so could do nothing

Coyne barely made a pass all game and i would take him out now though he has a suspension at some point. as said no one really bothers to sit and protect defence at all. the midfield either always beyond the ball or in line with our defenders giving huge space to invite a long range shot

cannot keep making the same mistakes. continuously making same errors and we just don't learn.

also gotta agree the attempted changes of subs was FAR to late.

buck your ideas up guys. so many dont warrant their place on current form

In the past few games I don't think Jackson has really had that many shots to save. He was tested at Hitchin, but that was to be expected. And yet, we still can't buy a clean sheet and have lost four games already this season. Missing chances is one thing but when we're conceding soft goals, that's just as bad. Jackson was at fault twice against Marlow and at least once today, so I agree Perks needs to come back in. If Bates doesn't trust Perks, then clearly we need a new keeper. Jackson isn't the only one to blame of course, and I'd have Yeboah back in ahead of Perkins and Harper. The midfield is still an issue as they all like to wander forward. How many have we conceded on the break so far this season? Two today and almost an own goal from Sweeney as well.

The current side is its own worst enemy. Yet again we fail to put a team to bed in the first half, so in the second comes the inevitable early concession and complete capitulation. There are some talented individuals but I think the management team has yet to mould them into a team capable of churning out efficient performances and results. Given the experience in the management team and the resources they have, I'd like to think it will only be a matter of time before they do it. I agree with most who say Daventry were just another average side, but they came into the game in decent form and almost beat Hitchin the other week. But they're a big physical side, so is it any wonder we got little joy in the second half when we resorted to playing hoofball with two short strikers in attack.

I too am fed up with sides coming to Holloways Park and celebrating a result like they've just won the Champions League. It was the same against Marlow. I really, really want us to get out of this level of football, and put this as a priority over any of the cups, but can only see Hitchin winning the league even at this early stage. I want to be proved wrong though. I think it is going to be a tight league, but we surely will be good enough for a playoff spot again at the very least.

Not many options on the bench today either - I left wondering why Sippetts wasn't brought on a lot earlier as we were needing two goals.

As a positive though, Danny Burnell looked bright in the first half and I do believe he will bang in goals.

god help us what have we got to do! coming from a commanding performance in the first half we never got going in the second half, and i agree the main problem we have atthe moment is the back four, they are not working as a unit they are not picking up their responsibilities at the back they seem to intent on pushing forward, great but they must realise that they must get back no good trotting or walking, if that is all they can do then they need to spend more time getting fitter, yeboah needs to come back into defence with seeby and perkins murphy needs to be dropped as his marking ,clearance /distribution have been abysmal for a few matches now and i think that jacko has made more than enough mistakes for perks to be given a start that done i think that the mid field would improve without the added stress of having to cover for the defences mistakes, it is the goalkeepers responsibility to organise his defence that is his number one priority, around his goal area he is the boss and as such the instructions he gives should be acted on with urgency. not argued about just done.and as such the buck stops with him when it all goes wrongthe defence should always closely mark any one that comes within there areadon't even give him room to brethe ,force him to play a ball before he wants to or make him an unviable option to pass to, most of our team pay the opponants to much respect and give them too much room, i think our strikers need to practice their shooting, and to lay over the ball so as to keep it down that way the birds flying over head won't have so much to worry about, we need a few more optins coming from the bench so that when something is not working it can be quickly assessed and the playing formation changed so that the opposition have more difficulty in taking advantage of our weaknesses. if these points are addressed i believe that promotion is possible. disscuss.

3 losses in our last 4 games speaks for itself. Jacko is off form so perksy should come in. I am at a loss as to why yads has gone from first name on the team sheet and captain to 4th choice cb, must be a personal issue.

Again sonner comes in and shows why we missed him so much but I will save my judgement on burnell, yes he looked good for 15 mins but then after he missed a couple quickly became frustrated and I think was as poor as the rest if them. Why wasn't martin on the bench. Yes he is poor but he offers something different. Also why do we wait until 4 45 to bring on subs. Its absolutely ridiculous. I think we will struggle to get into the playoffs unless we pull our socks up sharpish
