Aylesbury United 0 Hornchurch 2

In the end a deserved win for us at Aylesbury but at half time, after an awful first half performance in which we were perhaps fortunate to keep a clean sheet, it would not have seemed possible.

Although Aylesbury suffered an early set-back when Roni Joe left the field injured after 3 minutes, they had most of the possession and had us under a lot of pressure helped perhaps by our at times woeful passing. A Chris Bangura turn and shot on the edge of the penalty area brought out a good save from Gay and although we pulled ourselves more as the half went on, Aylesbury still had the upper hand and had a goal disallowed for offside a couple of minutes before the break.

Half time came and cue a couple of substitutions:- Gavin McGowan (back from suspension) and Andrew Martin replacing Kevin Marsden and Keith Rowland. Steve West once more made up the defensive line and we were sharper, hungrier and more dominant. We took the lead in the 55th minute. A Jude Sterling throw was flicked on by Vinnie John and John Keeling struck a shot across the goal into the far corner. Aylesbury nearly struck back with probably their best move of the game, Dean Canoville sending a defence splitting ball into the area for Bangura who shot across the goal and wide. We made it 2-0 on 65 minutes from a counter-attack, Andrew Martin taking the ball from the half way line, passing to John Keeling who returned it to Martin in the area who slotted home from 10 yards. A shocked Aylesbury had no answer and were maybe lucky not to go further behind on 75 minutes when Andrew Martin hit the post from a Scott Gooding cross with home keeper Adam Wheeler well beaten. With 5 minutes to go Vinnie John sent a searing volley goalwards from 18 yards but Wheeler made an excellent stop to deny him.

Line-up:- Gay, Gooding, Rowland (McGowan 45), Adedeji, Marsden (A Martin 45), Southon, Keeling, Sterling, West, John, John Martin. Subs not used:- Findlay, Cowley, Collier (GK)

Well done Hornchurch!!

Despite the fact that Canvey won, nothing has really made my day today.

If I had written Urchins' post about Canvey I would've been banned from the ground for it!....Ooops, I have!!!

Still I might come down with Yellow Army and view a couple of your home matches if this ban doesn't get resolved sooner rather than later! Providing Canvey are at home too of course!

well done to the lads today, a much better second half performance we really showed we could play as a team, we do have to try and do this in both halves of the game to kill teams off..................

felt sorry for crippsie and mooreo today they both looked pretty dejected at not making the team again, never mind lads keep on trying..................

U_M, in your piccy of Britney, has someone just asked her what 2+2 makes!?

Well done to the lads and hurrah to us being able to stick 2 fingers up to the KenTucky Fried Chickens after 'biggin' it up' over the past week!

Good display in the 2nd half and a deserved win ('twas blooming good to stand behind the goal and watch the ball hit the back of the net. Taff was unfortunate not to get another when he hit the post, but I'll only hold it against him if he doesn't get a hat-trick by October...!

Nice few days off before Grays. Good luck my little chickadee's, play like you have this weekend and you'll have no problem.

Woo hoo!!!!

Standing behind the goal. Now that's a little difficult to do if you are on crutches.

May I just add that the beer I had on Saturday at Kettering was excellent. May have been out of a can but it tasted so much better than the pap I had at Stortford. Will finally get to sample one of your burgers eventually!

I thought we were fantastic in the 2nd half a new team a fantastic 2nd half performance by Gav and Taffe, West might score Twenty goals this season but he will stop alot more from going in if we play him at the back. The quality of the passing was league quality!

Jude Sterling again proved why George has got him in such a calm defender who can actually kick a ball.

It would be nice if players who are left out each week had the same attitude as taffe last week , prpared to fight for their place.Everyone will get a chance this season to win their place and they must take their opurtunity!
