Park grilling for council bosses

Residents grilled Thanet Council leader Bob Bayfield (sic) and planning boss Cllr Simon Moores about plans to develop Hartsdown Park.

The councillors, attending the Westgate and Westbrook Residents' Association (WWRA) meeting, were bombarded with complaints about the proposals, which include more five-a-side facilities for adjoining Margate Football Club, fences and an (sic) hotel.

A member of the audience also said that a petition opposing the plans had been started. Others voiced concerns that permission was granted for development without more extensive public consultation, and said the land was left "to the people of Thanet" and should not be developed.

Mr Bayford said the issue of legal ownership was complicated, but that the law was interpreted as the land being passed from Margate Borough Council to Thanet Council. He said: "So we all own it. We then elect a council to make decisions in the best interests of the people."

Mr Moores repeatedly asked residents for time to look in detail about what could be developed on the site.

He said: "Although planning permission has been given, plans are just plans. Let me reassure you, nothing will happen until I have looked at it with officers and conducted public consultation."

I remember attending a meeting by the same group a few years ago. Never ceases to amaze me how ar$ey these people can get when the local football club wants to better itself.

Just have a look at the harbour Paul. The same silted up mud heap that it was 30 years ago. My father turned the Harbour masters job down because Ramsgate had more ideas for the future. The inner harbour there is mostly his pigeon and it still looks good today. Progress is incredibly slow in some parts of Thanet. But we have a Turner centre!

Now that is fantastic news-and surely deserves greater prominence.

H of T with a hotel operator is superb.

Ok-it may not yet be a legal agreement-but you can't ask better than that at this stage.

Well done MFC ,KP and GL

.

really really good news

Though it hurts-given a choice between ground development progress and an extra game in the FA Cup-i'd take the former for the long term benefit.

Hope fully the main site will carry news of this soon.

Just got to win the FA trophy and ryman league cup now instead
