Being a firm beleiver in putting my money where my mouth is,here goes

Canvey Island 4 Thurrock 3

This game started brightly with both teams attacking well. Thurrocks No 10 and 11 looking dangerous and Canvey midfield Dominanx with Jeff Minton orcestrating most attacks. Thurrock had a free kick in the 13th minute which went narrowly wide although Potter seemed to have it covered.

On 18 minutes JK hit a through ball to Greggors, flicked it on for Boylan, who controlled the ball perfectly and flanked by a defender either side, slotted the ball home for the first goal.

Canvey continued to mount attacks and looked really dangerous coming forward. It was from one these attacks that the ball came out to J.K who hit an unstoppable 25 yard curler with the outside of his right boot leaving Thurrocks Paul Gothard rooted to the spot.

Finally with a couple of minutes left in the half, Lee Boylan once again penetrated the Thurrock defence but his fierce shot was parried by the Thurrock keeper, came back to Boylan who cooly laid the ball back to Neil Gregory who tapped the ball in from a couple of yards.

2nd Half

Thurrock came out stronger for this half and Canvey had some defending to do for the first ten minutes, with Danny Potter somehow saving with his legs after the first five minutes. Canvey soaked up the pressure and went on the attack with Lee Boylan shooting just wide after 15 minutes and Neil Midgrleys shot well saved.

However the Canvey Faithful didn't have too long to wait for goal No.4, Neil gregory flicked a through ball on for Lee Boylan who once again beat off the defenders and shot low and hard into the back of the net.

Thurrock then hit back a couple of minutes later with a great goal from No. 10 Tresor Kandol. After 82 minutes another fierce shot from Thurrock hit the post and the shot from the rebound went over. On 84 minutes the referee awarded Thurrock a penalty after Ben Chennery was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area. Cliff Akurang stepped up to take it and even though Danny Potter dived the right wayy it was goal No.2 for Thurrock. With two minutes to go it looked like the three points were in the bag, until another well taken goal from Cliff Akurang left the Yellow Army with that sinking feeling but fortunately the Referee blew the whistle securing the 3 points.

My apologies for any inaccuracies and my thanks to Corinna without whos pens this report would not have been possible

Very good Andy!

Short, sweet and to the point...put's me to shame! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

You can read your masterpiece here:- www.canveyfc.com/2003/reports/8.htm I have filled in the numbers with names etc. but other than that it's relatively all yours...

I don't suppose you noted down the times of any bookings or substitutions for either side?

Well done Andy and very accurate.

Just my own observations, contraversial or not.

Although he had a great game, JK again used in the middle with Midgley on the right. Duffy had the experience to make room and exploit the left hand side. Midgley failed to do this on the right until the last quarter of the game where he made some good runs. JK on the right would of used that position to much greater effect.

Although he had a good first half, Theobald had a torrid time in the second half when the long ball from the Thurrock started to be played and he did not win many headers. Also lack of pace was noticeable when trying to recover.

Ty done okay but I'm sure Parmenter can contribute just as well in a game and should be given a run out.

Thought Gregory looked better and leaner and seems to be getting to balls he wasn't last year.

Just concerned how we conceeded three. We need to be so tight and mean at the back, lessons that should be learned from Aldershot, Gravesend etc. Their two black guys had us in trouble at times and the Number 12 sub that came on, who should have started for them.

In all, glad that we won again and only three off the top but still room for improvement.

Would like to see if fit and available a starting line up of:-

Potter

Smith, Chenery, Ward

Bennett

JK,Duffy

Minton, Parmenter.

Gregory, Boylan.

If Bennett not available then we need to sign a quality central midfield battler.

The team above has an "old boys" look but these lads will do the business and link up so well in their right positions. Idea for having both Wardy and Smith as a pairing is the to have the pace to get us out of trouble when need be.
