Very interesting read I think and not only because he found something nice to say about Harrow! (In fairness I'm reliably informed the food and the guest ales in the Clubhouse went down very well)

 

An interestingly timed piece about the role of agents in non-league football.....

 

Going off at a slight tangent, it has to be a concern that we don't seem to be able to get our young lads contracted these days. Clearly there's a risk in contracting a player in case he gets injured or loses form, but in my view, for young players the risk/reward ratio can be potentially good particularly versus contracting older players who generally can be more easily replaced.

 

The Chairman mentioned the likes of Elder and Whelpdale, young players both of whom we received fees for. We also picked up some money in compensation for the loss of Wareham and Bricknell - contrast that with the likes of Tim Cole!!

 

Danny Green wasn't contracted and went for nothing (although the Daggers gave us a friendly) and if Chargey goes it will be for nothing too. Is it worth backing our judgement on young players more or does today's climate just make that an impossibility?

Matt Game was enough to put anyone off contracting players.

 

I'm not sure who is or isn't contracted at the moment, But i do think the younger players would relish being contracted, As you mention to loose the likes of Charge or Chatting (who is starting to shape up niclely) for nothing would be a crying shame.
