The following Press Release was issued by the Ryman League over the weekend:

"Since the Ryman Football League’s Press Release dated 5th September, the League and the Football Association have been working closely with both the Club and interested parties in efforts to assist Croydon Athletic Football Club with its present problems.

The League have re-scheduled the Premier Division match Aveley vs. Croydon Athletic from Monday 20th September to Friday 24th September, 2010, kick-off 7.45 p.m., to allow the Club a few more days to finalise any arrangements regarding the future of the Club and satisfy the various requirements of both the Ryman Football League and the Football Association.

Ryman Football League Chairman Alan Turvey commented, “Every effort has been made to assist the club at this difficult time in the best interest of everyone. It is unlikely that the League will extend the deadline that has been given and fully understood by the Club and all interested parties. The Club must be able to demonstrate that it will be able to complete the current season and place a financial bond with the League prior to the deadline.”

Latest from the Croydon Athletic website:

"At the time of writing the bond requested has been paid to the Ryman League/FA but negotiations continue regarding the administration of the club and the paperwork required to take the club forward. A further statement will follow later on Wednesday evening when hopefully we can confirm Friday's fixture will take place as arranged."

More news from the Croydon Athletic website:

"All the necessary paperwork has been processed today and the Club can now look forward to the rest of the season. Mazhar Majeed has confirmed his commitment to the Rams by providing the bond needed to secure the future of the club, and we all thank him for giving us the opportunity to continue for the rest of the season and for his professionalism and loyalty in securing the Club's future. We also thank the FA and the Ryman League for their patience and undestanding over the last couple of weeks.

The Club will operate on a tight budget, and supporters are asked to contribute ideas regarding fundraising activities. Those that have already sent their suggestions through are being looked at and they will be contacted shortly.

On the playing front obviously players have departed and the team will be very different but once signings have been confirmed they will be annouced here and our game will of course go on on Friday night. We look forward to seeing as many people at Aveley as possible."

This might not be the end of it though. There are rumours that HMRC is preparing a winding-up order against the club.

"The Ryman Football League are pleased to confirm that Croydon Athletic Football Club will be permitted to participate in the Premier Division of the Ryman Football League for the remainder of the 201/2011 season subject to certain conditions that the Club have agreed to.

The Premier Division match scheduled for Friday, 24th September, 2010, Aveley F.C. vs. Croydon Athletic F.C. will take place at Aveley, kick-off 7.45 p.m.

League Chairman Alan Turvey commented, “After two weeks of protracted discussions and from the detailed information provided by the Owners, Croydon Athletic Football Club will resume playing. This will be good news for the supporters and those who have been with the club since its inception. The situation will, as with all other member clubs be closely monitored. The League is grateful to The Football Association Finance Regulatory Department for their assistance.”

I am dumbfounded by this.I don't want to see croydon athletic go bust or any other club in fact but to get "commitment" from a bloke who has sat in front of cameras with a suitcase of cash and basically said he money laundered through croydon athletic just doesn't sit right with me,perhaps there is more to this story than meets the eye as i understand he hasn't actually been charged but surely the evidence the world has seen is damning?????

  • 2 weeks later...

Apparently the Croydon Athletic chairman died last night. Just goes from bad to worse for them.
