HORNCHURCH 0 HENDON 0

Hornchurch kicked towards the windmill end and forced the pace from the start. They almost took the lead when Jonathan Hunt flighted a free kick into the goalmouth. Rickie Hayles got to the ball first but collided heavily with keeper Berkley Laurencin and needed lengthy attention. Hayles again went down a few minutes later and though he carried on until the interval, he was then replaced by Ronnie Fletcher. Tambeson Eyong dispossessed Danny Dyer and went close with an excellent shot which rebounded off a defender, and a Hunt corner was headed on by Lewis Smith to Eyong whose return cross into the goalmouth was headed out by Craig Vargas for a corner. Hunt’s inswinging kick found Elliot Styles whose header was inches over the bar.

A long ball by Michael Spencer was chased by Lewis Smith and keeper Laurencin did well to run out to clear, and the ball was pumped up field to Belal Aite-Quakrim who almost broke through only for Ollie Morris-Sanders to run out to clear. Lubomir then played a good pass out to Quakrim but he hit his shot wide of the goal. . at the other end it was Smith to Jo Flack, who turned sharply but Jo hooked his shot wide. Hayles then ran on to a Hunt free kick but Laurencin saved well, and in stoppage time Michael Peacock headed over from a free kick.

Hendon started the second half well when they moved up field and Quakrim hit his shot against the outside of the post. But for long periods it was Urchins who dominated the play. A Black lobbed shot skimmed the bar, Eyong picked out Flack whose cross to Smith was deflected by Vargas, whilst Hendon went close with a break away when Casey MacLaren’s long shot beat Morris-Sanders but went wide of the post. Hendon had a great chance to take the lead when the ball came over from the left and Guentchev found himself with an open goal just three yards out. Instead of tapping the ball home, he blasted the ball as hard as he could and it crashed against the post and away to safety, to the delight of the East Side – ‘how wide do you want the goal’ came the chant, loud and clear.

Eyong to Smith and Lewis had his first time shot blocked. But Urchins should have taken a deserved lead when Hunt’s free kick rebounded to Hunt, who was promptly scythed down in the area. After a long delay due to the visiting side’s play acting, Hunt stepped up to take the kick, but his weakly hit left footed shot was comfortably saved by Laurencin. With Hendon conceding a succession of yellow cards, Dyer was very fortunate to remain on the field when, just thirty seconds after picking up his yellow card, he pulled Tommy Black down as Tommy raced through. There was only one possible decision, but incredibly the only action was a free kick, and a relieved Dyer remained on the pitch. Hunt took the free kick and Laurencin saved well.

Hunt to Styles who hit his shot over the bar, and on an excellent pass by Leon Hunter, who came on to replace Dave McSweeney, to Martin Tuohy opened up the defence, but Tuohy hit his shot narrowly wide. Billy Coyne to Flack, but Jo was crowded out. In the final few minutes Hendon forced four corners, and it was from one taken by Jamie Busby that Hornchurch had another chance to score, for Morris-Sanders played the ball up field and Flack ran clear. Keeper Laurencin did well to come out to narrow the angle, and though Flack got his shot in, the keeper saved on the line to give Hendon a point.

A point won? No, two points lost.

Interesting how different people see things differently... I thought Danny (our two) in particular struggled today. both going forward and at the back. Draw probably the right result in a game that either side could have nicked, but neither keeper was unduely troubled, penalty aside. Also good to see Morris-Sanders hasn't lost his sense of humour since I last saw him play.

Also hope Hayles is ok - the dislocation when he was treated the second time round didn't look pretty.

Incidentally Dagger03... I'm aware that your reports often deviate somewhat from the norm, but the least you can do is pick up a teamsheet (they're freely available at your place) and copy the names down. You've got the Hornchurch keeper wrong, typos for two Hendon players that were right on the team sheet and introduced several typos into another.

Teamsheets were in short supply today. We didn't get any on the Riverside.

Hendonboy, Following a visit to the Hendon website I have ensured the correct spelling of your players names appears on the match report shown on our website.

I cannot edit the original post as I am not a moderator - so I have added a corrected report. Yes, it was Ollie Morris-Sanders in goal, and not Bobby Smith - put it down to the 'copy and paste' facility on Word, and the name Bobby Smith only appeared in the line up and not in the report itself.

Rob - you have written "also you have ross wall & tuohy coming on for smith!!!" - No, I did not.

I wrote "Ross Wall - Martin Tuohy for Smith 74" - and that is correct, as Ross was non playing sub, and Tuohy came on for Smith (Lewis Smith).

Hendonboy - suggest you write your own report if you do not like it.

The only typo was when I mis-read Belal for Belai on the team sheet. Yes, I know there are team sheets as I am the person who usually distributes them.

As for the Hendon number two, he was booked on 67 mins and then a minute later brought down Tommy Black as he was going for goal - so why no red?

Corrected report - apologies - I put Bobby Smith in goal instead of Ollie Morris-Sanders in the line up.

Also corrected spelling of Hendon number ten - first name should be Belal and not Belai. In the non playing subs - it is Serwin and not Gerwin, and Diedhiou and not Dieuhiou.

Who suggested I didn't like the report? I usually find them quite entertaining as it happens. Just thought it would be common decency to get people's names right. Dunno why people are being quite so defensive.

As least you get it - fan's from other clubs sometimes don't.

Mistakes happen though - it's part of being human - I'm sure it wasn't intentional
