Cycling........to Atherstone

The second of our cycling challenges is this coming Saturday when we take on the biggest ride of the season..........102 miles to Atherstone!

 

The weather forecast at this stage is for it to be dry although there's a chance of a headwind in our face, albeit less strong than it's been over the last couple of days. Fingers crossed as there's nothing worse than cycling into a strong wind. Doing the ride will be me and my fantastic colleagues Andy and Claire who both cycled to Hitchin. Huge credit to them for getting up at stupid o'clock to ride with me.

 

We'll be setting off from Slough at 4:00am and going up through Burnham, Bourne End, Wycombe and on to Princes Risborough where we'll take our first break. After that we'll head for Stoke Mandeville on to Aylesbury then through the villages to Towcester. At Towcester we'll have done 60 miles then pick up the A5 which will take us 40 miles or so past Daventry, Rugby, Nuneaton and into Atherstone.

 

If you see us please give us a wave and please please please add to the collection which we'll do when we arrive - whenever that might be!

Half way there by 8.45, but slowing pace due to wind. hills and general knackeredness.

yea assuming you did make it (the delay gave you an extra 15 minutes to try and help) thats an awesome effort considering i didn't fancy driving that far let alone cycle

Yes, we did it!! Left at just after 4am and arrived at Atherstone at 1:45pm. & hours and 13 minutes of cycling time and an average of about 13.5mph. The wind was a pain and after Towcester the hills were a nightmare. We did it without incident however - no punctures, no getting lost and no vehicles trying to kill us.

 

Thanks to those who wished us well when we arrived. A big thanks to Alan Harding for another £20 contribution and a special thanks to Dave Carpenter who not only contributed £20 but got us a card to congratulate us also.
