Slough Town 1-3 Marlow

Agree and disagree with some comments on here. However, need to look at the league table and see were still in a very strong position in a league. Apart from slack defending at times we've played well so far this season.

Agree that maybe 4-3-3 should be ditched for now. Maybe we should get Swift on the left and Sincs on the right with Coyne and Logie as central midfielders to tighten things up and help out the defence. Totally disagree with the corner kicks, they've been pretty good compared to last year. When we had Edgy at co last season taking them we probably had twice the amount we had in the previous three seasons and 90% of the time they hit the first man and were easily cleared (apart from when super Tommy Hayes took them! :bounce: )!

If you look at Hitchin they have John Frendo and Jamie Arlick up front, both capable of getting 25+ goals each in this league, which is why at the moment I think they will win the league. Our strikers have a ratio of scoring once every 4/5 games and the midfield who have been excellent apart from the last 2 games can't be asked to score every game. If we were to to sort out the defence and goalkeeper and get a goalscoring striker or two (I know easier said than done) then we'd give them a run for it in my opinion.

Chris you are right about the ratios of goals to games as shown below:

Player Games - Goals - Percentage

Martin 48 - 13 - 27%

Buchanan 46 - 24 - 52%

Hodges 151 - 81 - 54%

Boot 93 - 59 - 63%

The Hodges and Boot percentage is even more remarkable as at times they were playing together and therefore having to share the service from midfield.

It just goes to show how far off Simon Martin is from being a goal scoring stiker.

don't think we even need someone who has scored huge amounts consistently just somebody who you can rely on hitting the target more often than not and maybe someone with real pace. as said 25 goals a season strikers end up disappointing at Slough for whatever reason.

we could get an amazing striker who does score for us but it wont change fact we leak goals for fun

I think we've become paranoid about goal scorers coming to Slough and then the goals dry up.

It happens everywhere. Certain players suit certain teams/systems/formations. After all Buchanan kept on scoring and then there was Hodgey and Tony Boot.

I think a good example was Danny Jordan. Scored lots of goals for AFC Hayes because he was surrounded by pace. When he came to Slough the pace dried up and Danny had to do a lot of the Donkey work himself.

absolutely right unless we get a striker with pace most strikers will come into our team and find they need to do a lot of donkey work as we have such little pace in the attacking 3rd of the pitch.

time and time again Sonner and Martin particularly are left to battle and fight on the wing just to get us close to the opponents goal. by time cross goes in there is 1 slough player on most occasions in the box

whether this is due to our opponents being more organised defensively than ourselves i am not sure as we allow opponents to break at pace and slide through acres of space.

again our defensive side of the game simply must be improved for us to get anywhere near the playoffs even. that means throughout the team not just pointing finger at defence but no clean sheets in about 8 games this season is just nowhere near good enough

we need to at least have Tony Mendy on the bench Saturday. surely if he is valued someone should be assigned to help the boy get to games

if CoC is injured that leaves us just Simon Martin

Sonner still has 1 more game banned correct?

think its important we don't go too OTT though as before the last 2 games we were very satisfied with the teams performances. its leaking of goals as much as not scoring goals thats killing us right now

i shouldn't worry about it too much about the teams performance so far this season they have been far better than last seaon and look how far we got, the time to form opinoins as to where we actually are is around december / january time when things start sorting themselves out and start to settle, then if we have not improved that is the time to start shouting for heads to roll until then you can be concerned but better layed back and be cool about it.
