Codicote 3-1 Grays Athletic - abandoned after 82 minutes.

 

"Here's the definitive story (direct from the Codicote secretary).

 

The game was abandoned after 82 minutes. The referee did so because of the foul and abusive language coming from the Grays bench. He sent them all off one by one until there was actually no-one left on the bench! Eventually he decided that there was a child protection issue to consider as regards the continuing foul and abusive language (some coming from a well known ex West Ham pro well known for his foul language) so he abandoned the game. The FA are now referring the matter to the FA Youth Cup committee for a ruling. Hopefully the result will be allowed to stand (but that's not guaranteed, is it?)"

The game will be awarded to caldicot,grays should be expelled from next seasons competition and hit with a hefty fine,there is no place for that in the game,especially at that level

All clubs have managers that get sent off from time to time for abuse but this by the sounds of it is completely different and unless the governing bodies put their foot down this will continue and get worse

It's a good point well made. I agree that without more evidence, then this is just purely conjecture - However there are points that we can deduce from the facts:-

 

 

 

1. The game was abandoned after 82 minutes - The ref wouldn't have done that arbitrarily so there must have been an event or series of events to cause this to happen.

 

 

 

2. Codicote were 3-1 up at the time so it's unlikely they would do anything to cause an abandonment when they are so close to winning.

 

 

 

So based on that, the likelihood is that the problem has come from the Grays bench or from the fans - either way the result should stand (assuming there were no floodlight failures or any other issue to cause the abandonment which hasn't as yet been reported).

Grays found NOT GUILTY by Essex FA, although they had two officials sent off (foul and abisive towards the offical) and a player, whilst the home side "Codicote" were blameless. So having the courage of their convictions the FA has decided on a replay this Thursday as they stated "NO ONE WAS TO BLAME FOR THE ABANDONTMENT AND THE GAME HADN'T PASSED 90 MINS". RESPECT CAMPAIGN left in tatters over this.

I just hope that justice prevails and that Codicote win the replay. It seems very unfair on them.

Why would the ref abandon the game if both sides were blameless?

We'll have to remember that if we're ever 1-7 down again, Jimmy can just cause a bit of trouble at 82 minutes and get a re-match.
