Egham Town for the first time in its histrory now have an under 18's Youth side playing midweek football.

They played their first game against Camberley 2 weeks ago and are at Cranleigh FC Tonight.

When i took the job the Chairman asked me what i wanted from the club.

My reply was a good pitch and an under 18's youth side so we could develop players for the first team. (we now have both)

I was fed up with seeing all these good local youngsters going to all the other local clubs for youth football

Thanks to the hard work of Colin Bartholomew and John Caine this has now been achieved.

This is a massive step forward for Egham and if one player brakes through to the first team it will

all be worth while.

I will post and update fourthcoming fixtures.

It is good news Steve, but not the first time in their history. We had a side back in the early 90's that we were running alongside the reserves, playing in the youth league midweek and the suburban league (most of them) Saturdays. We actually got to the 2nd round proper of the FA Youth Cup and the final of the League Cup. They also had an under 17 side playing in the Sunday youth league. In fact, the three Bennett boys all played for us at the time.

Having said that, I do know that is something you wanted and it is great that the club have backed you with this because that is certainly the way forward. If there is a lull in matches in the future, maybe we could get a friendly organised. Best of luck with it all anyway!

Wasn't one of those teams the side that then became VWFC Youth team Webby (think the Egham U17)?

I'm sure I joined them the season or 2 after they had left the Egham setup and went on to become County champions and runners up in both the league and cup. We were a very good youth team and were a loss to Egham at the time.
