Hornchurch 1 Kettering Town 1

A much improved performance saw us score our first goal of the season and claim our first point, although perhaps it should have been three.

We scored in the first minute. Kettering lost possession from a corner and we quickly moved the ball forward to Vinnie John. John crossed, West chested down but a defender got a foot in but Scott Gooding followed up to score. A Gooding cross a few minutes later bounced off the crossbar and a West shot from 18 yards in the 11th minute went just wide. We had a goal disallowed after a foul on the keeper after 30 minutes after which Kettering began to get back into the game. They scored on half time, Ian King slotting home from the corner of the area after a Paul Fewings cross was half cleared.

The second half was scrappy and in the opening stages Kettering had more of the play. In the last 15 minutes we began to take control again and had the better scoring chances. Steve Jones was put clear by Steve West with 10 minutes to go but his shot was saved by the keeper who also smothered John Keeling's follow up. Five minutes later Jones stabbed a loose ball agonisingly wide after the keeper, under pressure from West, failed to deal with a Jude Sterling throw .

Line-up:- Gay, Gooding, Rowland, Adedeji, Marsden, Southon, Keeling, Sterling, West, John (Jones 65), John Martin. Subs not used:- Findlay, Moore, Cowley, Collier (GK)
