FA Cup Second Round Qualifying Enfield Town V Ashford Town (Middx) or Worthing

25 September

This has got to be a very good draw for the Town, with home advantage and a great chance to progress further in this competition.

Living down here on the south coast , I must fancy Worthing to win their replay with Ashford. Worthing's league form, away from home in Ryman Division One South this season, has not been brilliant, but they can turn it on a bit at home.

Definitely a match to look forward to for everyone, with a decent size gate, plenty of support, and another opportunity to secure some much needed extra funding for the club and the new stadium.

Now I stand to be corrected (whats new there, some would say), But 1893 have a home league fixture on the 25th of Sept (date of our home FA Cup match), which I calculate makes our FA Cup tie a Sunday fixture. Hopefully a 2pm(ish kick off) so that all the sunday footballing section's playing in the morning will have the opportunity to come along for the match. I'm sure the Sunday match will double our average gate.

I think the club will need to ask for all hands on deck.

FA Cup should take priority and another section of OUR club have the pitch booked for the Sunday but we MUST NOT upset that other lot despite a promise over not having fixtures altered again for the other section of OUR club!

There's no real reason why those playing on a Sunday could not get to a Saturday game. Is there?

I will be disappointed if it's on a Sunday as there are bound to be games on Sky TV whereas there are none at 3.00pm on a Saturday.

Not only must any FA competition take priority over any league game..But surely the leasholdering club must take priority over any sub letters ,when there is an unavoidable calsh of fixtures.. (and i would assume that should have been written as such in any sensible sub-letting agreement before the start of the season???)

I agree with Brunob. The FA cup must take priority over the Essex Senior League. I am sure we will get confirmation of this shortly.

Don't hold your Breath Steph. Looks like it will be on Sunday. 3.00pm Kick Off :flame: :wall:

Looks like you holy devils will have to go to early mass on the 26th then.

As a supporter of the club I think a Sunday game offers us an experiment. It'll be interesting to see what size a gate we get.

The Sunday footballers normally play on a Sunday Morning. saturday footballers (who can also be Sunday footballers) generally play Saturday afternoon or have to work so can't play Saturdays.

Therefore I conclude there will be more people available and interested in our game.

Whats important is that we know it's a Sunday so we have to lump it and get behund the boys like we can and scream us into the next round of the Cup and put another £4.5k into a very needy kitty.

Not everyone can make a Sunday game and their support can be arranged around Saturday afternoons plus another part of OUR club has an agreement and has paid to use the ground on Sunday afternoons but that is easily overlooked and agreement goes out of the window.

I know where your coming from and I do sympathise, however, it's the way the cookie has crumbled for that particular weekend. Many Cup matches are played on a Sunday purely because groundsharing 'partners' have situations such as our one is throwing up. And as i've said above, it'll be interesting how this effects our gate.

I am of course looking at this in a selfish pair of blinkers.

As Littlehampton stated in a seperate thread let the countdown begin, I love the FA Cup at this level as every round is a triumph.

We did play a couple of games on a Sunday in the cup & possibly vase a few seasons back, if memory serves me correct we played Sudbury & Deal or Thame

Both games i believe saw attandances over the 300 mark which was very pleasing, hopefully a gate of that size would be very welocoming
