FA CUP Bethnal Green Utd vs Harlow Town Tonight

I remember playing Lewes in the old Ryman 3, although it could have have been in Ryman 2 after all the changes. Took hours to get there, kicked off at about 8.30pm with 9 or 10 men and got thumped, about 9-0. Then the pleasent journey back and got home in the early hours.

Always remember Lewes doing a great buffet after the game !!! their ground wasnt the best though and its a mission to get to.

Anton and Justin whats this about you lot "inciting" the fans after your equaliser !!! I would say there could be some fireworks tonight but the fans stand about 2 miles away at your ground !!

And they still put you on the bench you muppet. Lovely caravan site at Lewes- Football Director was getting very excited about the prospect of going there.

BETHNAL GREEN UNITED drew 1.1 with a last min equaliser on Saturday in the FA Cup to earn a reply tonight @ mile end stadium ko 7.45 against HARLOW TOWN would love you to show support and come down tonight.

come on green machine

A couple of decent reports off TK forum, Gaffa.

FA Cup

Bethnal Green 0 Harlow 4

Attendance: 200-250

Admission: £5

Programme: £2

My previous visit to the Mile End stadium was in 2006, a 0-0 draw between Sporting Bengal and Tunbridge Wells played on a miserable February afternoon in front of a crowd of 16, including club officials.

On the back of that the Mile End Stadium was up there as one of my least favourite venues, but last night changed that. I still dislike the fact that it’s an athletic stadium and the first 15 minutes of the game was a non-event as the ball spent more time bouncing around the furthest flung corners of the venue than it did on the pitch.

But there was a large crowd, including a fair number supporting Bethnal Green, and I suddenly found a romance and a vibrancy to the venue that had been lacking four years ago... the bright lights of Canary Wharf dominating the skyline, the trains trundling over the old brick viaduct, the aircraft taking off from London City Airport and on two sides of the stadium there were plenty of five-a-side games taking place, creating more light, sound and bustle.

Harlow were the better team throughout but Bethnal Green were nothing if not enthusiastic and at half-time were still in with a shout, despite being 1-0 down. However a superb direct free-kick from a tight angle early in the second-half seemed to put the game out of reach and things were well and truly put to bed when the Bethnal Green captain was dismissed about 15 minutes from the end and Harlow scored a fourth seconds later.

There were a large number of hoppers present. Can anyone confirm what the Bethnal Green captain was sent off for? Nothing appeared to happen in the seconds prior to the red card but none of the home players protested.

A word about the programme. £2 for 28 glossy pages. All but a four page insert with a Harlow history and the teams was pre-printed. But it included a four page history of Bethnal Green and a three page welcome from the chairman, all very interesting and even educational. I never knew about the Bethnal Green tube station disaster in 1943, the largest civilian loss of life in the war, caused by a stampede.

Like you eesti7 I also dislike running tracks. But last night was weird with such a big crowd for them. The 'home' fans were more like a 'junior sunday cup final' crowd, out for the magic of the cup. For make no mistake this would have been nothing special if Harlow had been relegated not reprieved & this was an Essex Senior League cup tie.

This was the pure 'pulling power' of the magic of the Cup!

As it happens I finish work at six on Mondays, & this is really easy for me to get to from my work in Bermondsey. So I'm hoping they play one or two Monday nights as well.

i thought their people on the door were very friendly & welcoming, which is enough to entice me back, even if it's the 'wrong side of the water'.
