Windsor v Grays

The score today was Grays 1 - 0 Windsor. A crowd of 314 (announced over the tannoy, with under 14's getting in for free) saw what, for the most part, was an engaging, exciting and overall enjoyable game of football.

I thought we dominated the first half with better possession and the ball spent more time in their half than ours. Not many clear cut chances but a goal line clearance that, depending on who you talk to, either crossed the line clearly or was never in, was the closest we came. We had a strong period of pressure but this was after Grays had taken the lead with a terrific strike from approx 30 yards after the ball was given away cheaply. Grays were not as good as I expected in the first half and felt our performance deserved at least a goal.

The second half saw Grays tactically step up a gear and with Windsor moving from 4-5-1 to 4-4-2 Grays seemed more dominant and created more chances. Strangely Windsor didn't look as good but created more chances, put the ball in the net 3 times (3 offside decisions), had a decent penalty decision ignored and had a couple of chances that should have been finished. Grays missed a couple of absolute sitters and Delroy made a few good saves.

All in all a draw would, in my opinion, have been a mroe fair result but I am sure a Grays fan couldd justify a case for their victory.

Windsor put in another good peformance, it was unfortunate we were drawn against one of the strongest teams in the competition at the moment and our team was still in its infancy. Our team will get better and if they continue to play like that we will stay up at least in mid table. The passing is good, the movement is good, the skill is evident and the team really wanted it and played as a team.

Keep up the good work and teh results will come.

Accurate report of the cuptie. Same sentiments and observations from me. Gray's star player, Duran Reynolds, was in excellent form and snaffled up every 50/50 ball that was directed forward. But for him we might have been level several times. We missed the dominance and cool head of Dave Woozeley but the side worked well for each other until the cause seemed to be lost towards the end.

Shame we lost to a goal from one moment of lost concentration, but Dave and Jake continued to stretch the play wide with constructive and penetrating runs, and the passing moves looked very good in the first half.

The team is still in construction mode but the foundations look stronger as each game is completed, and there's an encouraging mix of skill, pace and instinct.

Also worth thanking all those who came on the team coach. Helps raise the spirits, let alone saving a fortune in petrol!
