no these are all good 1st team players and we didn't want any of them to leave as I said before its a good job Koo has loads of contacts and he has been able to assemble another very good team,I truley hope this doesn't happen to any of your clubs as it could possibly be disastrous.

Kroons you are deliberately avoiding the point so I will spell it out for you.Your players are bringing in our players because they are the only ones with contacts,the idea of being a manager at this level is as much about contacts as it it about ability, without any contacts you shouldn't have the job.

 

He had enough contacts to entice 5 players from Badshot Lea close season

At the beginning of the season I was shown a text message at work by someone involved with Cove that would put a whole new slant on this thread.

I won't go into details online as it'd be wrong and a breach of confidence but be careful what you have a go at other teams for just in case your own club are doing it without you realising.

this would be the same steve duff that was a cove youth team player and when no opportunity to play was given due to cove paying stupid money to average combined counties players at that time moved on to farnborough north end and he then blossomed under their training/environment before cove enticed him back via text messages from current cove players and then put in a 7 day approach only after he had agreed to join cove????

Duff was spotted by our physio who was helping out at FNE one time. At that point a 7 dayer was put in to speak to the player.

 

I'm not a manager, but i do speak to many managers past and present and i do know that it goes on behind closed doors every single day.

A manager will not usually waste his time putting in a 7 dayer without 1st knowing that he may be interested. I would say 90% of 7 day approaches result in the player moving. Why?? Cos they knew it was coming!

 

Steve was a good player when he moved from FNE but he was still only good enough for ccl1 level. Granted he was a very good player but Koo has brought him on a long way which is why Tooting wanted him to stay. He's now blossomed in to a top quality player feared by all teams. He tore Banstead apart Saturday.

 

Camberley did themselves no favours when they jeered at Duff when he was subbed with 10 mins to go against Camberley on Bank Holiday Monday. Comments to the Cam right back like ' well done webby, in your pocket' and other jeering that i cant remember but it was all aimed at Duff. Little did they know that he was about 50% fit as was Tom McGarry and our forward. We were let down by 2 players which is why we were forced to play the injured players.

 

From what i've heard today; duff has told Koo he has no interest playing for Camberley.

hmmmm, JJ methinks you should get your facts straight before passing comment. 'RUBBISH' eh???? when u see steve on Tuesday why dont you ask him if he was ever at cove youth, ask him was he captain, ask him if he got even on the bench for a 'meaningless' cup game at any time, then ask did he leave cove at 19 years old due to the lack of opportunity as i quoted above.

 

When you have done all that I am prepared to accept your wisdom. Until then you can beleive the version you know to be correct.

 

for the record, steve should be playing at fleet or at that level trying to improve his game constantly while he's still young, but hey thats all IMHO.

the RUBBISH was aimed at your comments on our approach for him while at FNE. I can only comment on the facts that i know are true. I didnt make the approach for Steve! I give steve a lift regularly to matches so know all about his days at Cove. It was obv not the right time for him to move up to the 1st team especially with all the big time kents that were at the club at that time!

 

There is still no doubting that his game has improved massively since arriving BACK at Cove! He is the 1st name on the team sheet every week - apart from mine obviously!!

Do you think your decision to leave Cove influenced the decision of any other Players to do the same.

I know at least one of Players who left said it was one of the reasons he was leaving so are you to blame for the mass exodus.

JJ and duncs, all im saying is that we all know its goes on and its accepted thats the way it is, these lads are all mates and aqaintances away from football and of course they will pass on numbers etc... its only human to want to strengthen the team youre currently part of. this sort of thing happens every year on a varying scale, some teams win and some lose. Cove are no different to many others, i'm sure the guys at Badshot Lea and at Fleet Town felt the same in the summer when the vast majority of their squads were tempted by other clubs on the same scale that you refer to as cove.
