Binfield v Margate

First half was pretty even, even a bit flat by Margate standards at the moment. Second half way better and fitness, or lack of, took its toll on the Binfield players. Osbourne's goal was simply stunning. He must have gone round four players and the keeper to put in the back of the net from an angle!!

Overall, a nice afternoon. Very sunny, food was good and home support very friendly. I wish Binfield all the best for their league efforts.

Lots and lots of possession first half, just lacked creativity; barely had a shot on target. Reckon IOC must have issued a bit of the hairdryer treatment at half time, because we came out second half a completely different team. Much sharper and created a number of chances in the first 20-25 mins of the second half. Ishmail created the first with his endeavour and laid it on a plate for Welford; to be fair to him, it was still a stylish finish. Then Ishmail got the rewards for a superb performance with a well-taken second goal after a spot-on through ball from Wilson. And Osbourne's solo goal was truly superb: he just kept going, and going, and going, and finished it neatly after rounding the keeper. One of the best goals I've seen in a Margate shirt for a long time.

Once the third went in, I think we knew it was over. We sat back and let them back into the game, when we probably could have gone on to score a few more. But you can't really blame the players, the hard work had been done. Cracking little club: they gave us a great reception, turned out in their numbers and really put in a performance they could be proud of. And a lovely touch at the end: a representative came onto the coach, congratulated us on the win and wished us all the best in the competition. They really were great sports today; I hope they are successful in their league campaign.
