HORNCHURCH 6 ENFIELD 2

Hornchurch dominated from the start, and almost took a first minute lead when Jamie Richards fired a shot narrowly wide of the goal. With Jonathan Hunt dictating the play in midfield the forwards had plenty of accurate service, but Enfield almost took the lead when they broke away down the left and Michael Benjinam ran clear, but his shot was held by a diving Bobby Smith, signed from Chesham Utd after previously playing for Northwood. Hornchurch then opened the score with a fine left footed drive from ROSS WALL from outside the area, and shortly afterwards Tam Eyong weaved his way through the away defence, only for Cally Smith to save well. Richards and Eyong both went close before Hornchurch increased their lead when TAMBESON EYONG ran down the left wing, turned inside, carried on, and fired a hard low volley past a packed defence and into the net.

Enfield had a good chance to pull a goal back when Carl Thomas Lewis was played clear of the defence, but Bobby Smith came out quickly and Lewis hit his shot wide of the goal. The third goal came from ROSS WALL who turned quickly onto Hunt’s pass and fired in a left footed shot from outside the area. It was a Hunt – Wall combination again that opened up the defence, but this time Ross saw his shot cannon back off the foot of the post and into the keeper’s hands. Lukman Mojeed, who last season played for Leyton and also for Waltham Forest, was injured shortly before the interval and was replaced by Ashley Harris at the interval.

Three up and in total command the picture changed in the space of thirty seconds, when ELIOT CROSBIE made a solo run down the right, turned inside and fired in an excellent shot from outside the area, and when DEAN NYAIM gave an almost identical performance a few seconds later, the match seemed about to change completely.

On came Louis Crowther, who played earlier this season for Thurrock, and is the brother of Billy Crowther, and it was BILLY CROWTHER who scored the fourth goal when he ran on to a long clearance by Bobby Smith to hammer the ball into the net. Hornchurch were once again in command and Eyong went close twice before setting up ROSS WALL who hit a left footed drive hard into the net from Tam’s perfect centre. Eyong had a chance to score when he beat three players and ran through, but Cally Smith saved well, and STEPHANE LAGO netted with sixth goal with a well placed volley. Hornchurch had several more scoring opportunities but some good goalkeeping kept the score down.

The league cup match was against the team now known as Enfield 1893. This is the original Enfield team, which moved to Boreham Wood and then to Ware, and this season they are playing at Brimsdown Rovers FC. Only it is no longer Brimsdown Rovers, as they have merged with Enfield Town to form Enfield Rovers, who however are still playing under the name of Enfield. Enfield Town are the team that was formed by ex-supporters of Enfield FC, so this now means that both the real Enfield (Enfield 1893) and the other Enfield (Enfield Town, now Enfield Rovers, but playing as Enfield), both play at Brimsdown Rovers, who no longer exist. Hope this explains everything.

Please note that I have used the spellings of the away team as per the official team sheet.
