Smudge's Report.

Firstly have to say,I love going to Raynes Park Vale, very hospitable people,Refreshments very reasonably priced, and excellent value.Beer cheap as well. The match was played on an excellent surface, between 2 very good sides, who like to play Football, and on this showing I cannot believe R.P.V.are near the bottom of the League. The Goals,Egham scored early after a slick passing movement in midfield, allowed Matt Graves to get behind the R.P.V.backline 25yds out,he showed calmness that belied his age,he advanced on Goal,no panic, and cooly slotted the ball past Paul Brady giving him no chance.Egham were playing good slick passing Football at this stage, but R.P.V.were competing well and very much in the game. Then they were given a lifeline,a shot from 30yds out struck the arm of an Egham player inside the area, the Referee Hilary Achenui who was well positioned had no hesitation in pointing to the spot,to the uproar of the Egham Management Team and Players. The Egham player did not have his hands by his side,or protecting his privates, his hands created a big target to go round,in my opinion ,The right decision.Austin Gacheru calmy scored sending keeper Justin Gray the wrong way,1-1 game on.Early in the second half I introduced myself to Steve who regularly posts on here, a true gent yes a little vociferous, but his instructions to his team were first class, underlined with encouragement thrown in,and the occassional moan of course. Both sides had very good chances to take the lead, but both were spurned from close range. The winning goal was worth the entrance fee alone,Adam Foulser received the ball on the half way line, evaded 3 challenges then played the ball to John Pomroy's feet, who had his back to goal, who in one movement swivelled, and fired home giving the Keeper no chance.R.P.V. were not done for though and applied a lot of pressure to the Egham back line, especially from set pieces, but to no avail.A fair result as Egham just edged it.Now to the Officials Mr Achenui had a great game, even though receiving a lot of stick from both sides which was unwarranted in my opinion.I will give you 2 examples,Gacheru went down as though hit by a runaway train, played dead, but soon got to his feet when no Penalty was given. But the funniest one of the night,or maybe not so funny was when Charlie Muldowney feigned a Head Butt from a R.P.V.player who was no where near in contact, then done a forward 21/2 pike with twist, good enough to get him an Olympic Medal, the ref had none of it,and said player got to his feet ,within seconds, had us all in fits, but not really funny.HE MADE HIMSELF LOOK A MUG.On the downside and my only criticism of the game was the level of Language used by both sides to the Officials,as a guy said to me on the way out,How could you bring young children to listen to that.Tony Best, and Mark Ford had good games as Assistants.SMUDGES MAN OF THE MATCH:-JOHN POMROY,HOLD UP PLAY EXCELLENT,AND A COOL FINISH.

Pretty fair report Smudge and also good to meet you last night.

I felt the overall result was a deserved one but i was impressed with Raynes Park and they wont take long long to climb back up the table.

Thought we started very well and played some good footbal in the first 20 minutes which resulted in Matty Graves slotting home the first.

Felt we looked very comfortable at that stage until the refereee decided to interupt proceedings an award what for me was never a penalty (sorry smudge !)

The raynes park player smashed the ball from 2-3 yards away from our leftt back who kept his hand at his side and the ball struck his left hand.

To my utter dismay the refree awarded a penalty. Anyone who thinks i am wearing Egham spectacles please speak to the RPV managment who

openly admitted it was never a pen ! (please verify that Dobbo ) Following that RPV picked their game up and came close with one or two chances

with the main threat coming from their right winger. (very good player)

Both teams continued to play good football and the RPV keeper made two great saves just before half time.

Second half we again started very strongly and missed one or two very good opportunities which as the half went on i thought we might regret.

Then with around 25 to go John Pomroy again proved why he is the best finisher in the CCL and why i have spent 18mnths trying to sign him.

Following a good move John with his back to goal showed great awareness with a first time shot and turn that left the keeper with no chance. (dont think there is another striker in the league that would have scored that goal !)

This was followed with another couple of good opportunites spurned which at 2-1 left me worried.

RPV then picked their game up again and put us under real pressure in the last 20 mins. Not helped in my opinion by some rather dubious free kicks given against us ?

Fortunately we managed to ride this period out and defended well as a unit to see the game out.

In regards to the incident with my player "hitting the deck over the kiss blown by the RPV full back" It was embarrising and was dealt with by myself afterwards.

He should have been booked which would have resulted in a deserved red card (maybe Karma for the penalty given ?)

Maybe the fact he made such a "twat" of himself was punishment enough ?

All in all a pleasing night and an ejoyable game.

Unfortunately no game Saturday to follow this result.

Yeah and your left back could beat up David Haye with violence like that !

Our left winger is in a coma :)

Steve, you just shaded it, just annoyed that we dropped more points in a game which could have gone either way

Second goal from either side was always going to be vital

Story of our season so far, however its very satisfying to compete against clubs with higher budgets then us every week, and do well

Hope your left winger recovers soon
