Officials

Another good set of officials last night at home to Croydon. Controlled the game, worked well together and had a good rapport with players and management. This is something that has been a common thing for us this season, so long may it continue. Tough game being a referee, as there will always be one side that feels aggrieved at certain decisions, and I would not wish to do the job. All the more reason for us to show them our respect and let them do their jobs. There have been a couple of exceptions to this, both of whom were referees I knew, but the general trend is positive and all the new ones have been spot on. I don't think there were any bookings last night, which was also the case on Friday night against Dorking, so that's 210 minutes of football, all of which was played at a very high tempo. Keep up the good work lads!

One stupid scenario they have to deal with. Linesman (sorry, but I'm old school) doesn't give something, leaving it up to the referee, and gets a rollocking for not making a decision. Then, another time he gives a penalty, as he is better placed to, and gets a rolllocking for making a decision! And if it is the linesman the other side of the pitch, the lino by the dugout gets the third degree about what went on 100 yards away! Passion, most of the time, but I'm sure we all do it and people watching must sometimes think we are mad or something!

Funny old game!

The annoying one for me when Assisting is when I am asked why I'm not _contradicting_ the referee!  For example: Foul in middle of pitch, referee gives it, I'm berated saying "You saw that!  He got the ball!  There was nothing in it!"

Great idea, Smudge: "10 Things You Should Know About Your Assistant Referee" ;)

Must admit the general level has improved this year so far !

I have also tried to make an effort to speak to more officials after the game when they have done well.

Except for one occasion at Chessington which i will not go into on here.

Nice of the CCL to write to me though :)

That is good to hear but even if they have what you consider a bad game Steve still go and have a chat with them. That is the time real learning happens on both sides.
