MFC 2 - 0 AVELEY

Ok not a pretty game and to be fair the scoreline flatters us somewhat but as Micheal would say "boring game but all three points is a must". We looked quite good for the first ten minutes and then just... well fell apart, passing was awful and the team looked as though this was their first ever game. Second half the changes were an attacking format with "4" Strikers on the pitch (going for it then) and to be fair the changes didnt seem at first to take effect. What a relief then when Shaun Welfords well timed header went in and the the tempo of the team became more settled and perhaps dare I say confident. The second goal was just desserts as I reckon their number 3 either fell/screamed or tried to get our lads into trouble at any given opportunity so the resulting goal from a free kick given against him was "WELL GOOD" :)Hopefully this result will spur the lads on to better games because they have the abilitiy but sometimes dont seem to BELIEVE it.

Agree with Dannyriding's summary.

To add to that, early on we couldnt string two passes together didnt get tackles in,got dispossessed all too often & generally were 2nd best. The late introduction of Ishmail most certainly did change things. His pace & running at defences made all the difference (how refreshing to see one of OUR men running at defences). Two well taken goals by Welford & two miraculous saves by Turner early on.

I still maintain that further pace on the bench with Waugh will see an even more improved performance as he is another who seems to like to run at defences.

Man of the match, given out 10 -15 minutes prior to the end of the game gave it to Turner & I wont deny him that award as his two magnificent saves earlier well & truly did keep us in the game, however Welford for his two well taken goals & Ishmail for his non-stop running & commitment weren't far off getting this award too.

Dissapointed with quite a few of our "main" players out there tonight.

We came away with the points which is the main thing but it would be nice to see away performances i.e that of Kingstonian, come to Hartsdown Park for a change, however as I said previously a result,if achieved, no matter how the play is is the most important thing but it would be nice to see both more often especially at home & in front of the home supporters.

Saturday sees us up against a potential banana skin & we must improve from this showing to get a result away in a Cup that once put our names in headlines but in recent years has seen us unmentioned through poor efforts.Lets hope the form of Kingstonian & a result similar to last night comes about on Saturday & see's us through a very difficult round.

Well done Margate for grinding out our first 3 pointer last night but we need more consistent Kingstonian performances please.

Gotta disagree with some of that., i thought in the first half especially we needed to slow it down, we seemed to play at 100 mph and never allow ourselves time to get a head up, played too many blind passes and pumped hopeful balls up field.

When Grant or Pinns did manage to catch one of these they were usually surrounded by defenders with little or no support, we would rush forward and Aveley would hit us on the break.

We need to work on building from the back and passing through teams not the kick and rush stuff we saw in the first half, too many players out there didn't look comfortable on the ball and were happy to get rid in any direction as soon as possible.

Could'nt care less how we played(not great) -its just the result that counts.

having seen the team line up-and formation-i would have taken a draw.

As Cookie said-the person who changed the game was ISHMAIL-frightened them to death-.

Was Lacey sub-tactical or injury.

I guess IOC ndeserves credit for bringing him on-albeit -i suspect many of us feel he should be partnering welford in the first place.

I am fully supportive of IOC -but i would suggest that 'he got away with it last night':

As above-i reckon ISSMAIL should start with welford-but if IOC believes that PINNs and welford are a great combinationas he states=why did he not play them together last night-instaed of putting Grant up front.

To much tinkering last night:

Ok-Cloke is injured so maybe JK comes in-but wht fiddle around with the rest of the poostions.

Robinson does look good at centre back-and Osborne did ok on the flank-but really-there was only a need for one change-instaed we had about 5 players all out of their best posiotions-seemed unnecessary to me-but i know nothing.

Could'nt argue with mom-ok ISMAIL made a difference and welford got a brace-but if it was not for JT in first half-we would have been losing and goals change the pattern of games.Pleased for JT as i thought he was vulnerable (slow) at free kicks-but not last night.(as Cookie said-odd /risky to announce mom with 15 minutes to go- )

I think we missed Marsden badly-and in particular-with just having Saunders and WW in central midfield-we did not control the midfield-you have to have 3 central midfield players in every game and just control the midfield and normally the rest follows.Sherman is a proper midfield player-Pinnock-despite his efforts is not.

Having said all that-delighted at the result-hopefully IOC learnt alot of who can play where and who can't.

Got away with -marginally deserved the win anyway, its results that count and we did not concede the nil.

For goodness sake just had our first win and all we get from Michael (again) are the negatives some of which do not exist. Look where we were this time last year, sinking fast and compare with what the club have achieved since, this is a good bunch of players in the Ryman League, and we are improving all of the time, I have confidence in IOC and his ability to play who he likes where he likes and it is not for me to tell him what to do, I appreciate this forum is for opinions but please see the positives for once !!!!!!!
